I've had the term "Secret History" in my inventory lately, first from reading Emma Bull's Territory and watching Gaiman's Beowulf* last year, and finally from my brother describing my post on Elder Races, and Younger as "forensic ecology as literary analysis technique, a sub-genre of secret history literary analysisI noticed that I really like

I notice too that when I know the why for events, behaviors, characters, and things that otherwise don't make sense, I'm much happier than when they're unexplained and there is no secret history, arbitrarily stuck in there cause it seemed sort of fun.
