I'm astonished that in your quotes there weren't 456,784 "he said quietly," "she said quietly," and "I said quietly"s.

It is pretty amazing. I can only assume that all of the action took place in a library.

A father has to kill his daughter . . . again?

No, wait, that was the _mother_ of his daughter last time. Which makes it so much better.

I was told that this novel was very funny.

I admit I haven't read it. I picked up Butcher's first novel and couldn't get past the first chapter.

Is it really funny?

I did not find it funny, though in fairness I could not stand Dresden so it was never likely I would.

I tried to get into this series, managed several of them, but bounced off of them enough that I made a point of selling my copies without enduring the rest. (I think I had the first seven, and read maybe three of those.) They felt clunky and bored me silly. I'm glad that Dresden fans took 'em off my hands so quickly, hah.

Wow. I am so glad I quit this series years ago. Also, your recaps of the stories you're reading for the Hugos are far more entertaining than the stories themselves ;-p
