14 Valentines, Day 12

Feb 12, 2009 20:46

Today's topic at 14valentines is education.

I'm sort of taking a roundabout approach to this topic. Books were one of my primary sources of education as a kid (I was a voracious reader), so today I'm talking about five of my favorite female book characters.

With bonus pictures, because everything is more fun when there's pic spam! )

I've read the first three, and so long ago!

I loved the Anne books, and the Little Women books (although I was devastated that Jo didn't end up with Laurie), and never realised the "Wrinkle in Time" books were so well known. I only read the first one once, but it did leave a lasting impression on me.

Thanks for posting this. It's brought back some nice memories.

The Wrinkle in Time books are classics! I could never decide which one was my favorite. I wasn't a huge fan of A Swiftly Tilting Planet, but I reread Wrinkle, The Wind in the Door and Many Waters over and over again.

There's nothing like remembering the books you grew up with. ♥

Anne! Meg! It's fun just to be reminded of characters I loved so much.

I never wanted the girls to marry, though. I was always disappointed at the end. M.

I love going back and remembering all the books I adored as a kid. Makes me want to go read them all over again!

Aw. I was talking to a friend on my flist recently about the slashability of Anne and Diana -- would that have been more to your liking? :-)

Hee! Probably. And I distinctly remembering slashing two of the boys from Rose in Bloom, though I hardly remember the rest of the book. I'll have to go back and reread, now. M.

Hmmm, I don't think I ever read Rose in Bloom -- I really should rectify that!

I loved Meg so much! She was the first character who ever made me feel really comfortable being a geeky awkward girl. And I thought Calvin was the best thing ever!!

Yes, exactly! I could really relate to her, and the fact that Calvin (gangly, sweet, handsome Calvin) adored her gave me hope for myself. :-)
