Question: When you feel yourself starting to lose your love for a particular fandom (or ship), what do you do? Reread your favorite fics? Go back to the source material to try to rekindle the flame? Give yourself a break for a bit and then go back to it? Let yourself drift to something new, because no obsession lasts forever ( Read more... )

I think what's probably happening with QaF for me is what happened with Harry Potter a year or two ago -- I'm losing that sort of obsessive fannish love that leads you to watch episodes/read the books repeatedly and seek out any fic you can find. These days I still enjoy HP and read fic when my favorite authors write it, but otherwise it's a much less obsessive sort of feeling. That's where I will probably end up with QaF too. I just hope that's enough to fuel my last few character pic spams! I really want to finish that series because it feels like a WiP to me right now, just hanging over my head. I will do it! *nods*

I have more and less time and passion for Queer as Folk depending on what else is going on in my life, but if my interest in it ever wanes, I'll be very grateful to get my life back, LOL, and will definitely never ever look for or go near another fandom again ( ... )

Haha, I know how you feel -- fandom takes up so much time it's ridiculous. I used to actually read books and exercise and stuff. *facepalm*

All that said, what keeps me here mostly is writing, so... I'd say, doing something creative.

I have never been touched in any way by a fanfic muse, alas, but my character pic spams were all great fun to do. I really want to finish that series...I just haven't had the inspiration lately. I have faith that it will return after this election, which is sucking up a ton of my energy!

I never drifted away from dogs at all, and I don't expect to drift away from QAF. But what I do with those things changes over time, and how much time in a given day or week changes frequentlyI don't think I'll drift away from QaF either, at least not for a long while. I think my feelings about QaF are evolving into more of what I feel today about Harry Potter (my first really active fandom), which involves much less obsession and involvement. The love has never gone away, and I still have moments where I remember why ( ... )

That's a good point -- fandom can be such an all-consuming thing that it's impossible not to need a break after a while. Surely my love will return, even if it's in a less obsessive form. :-)
