*waves* Feeling more cheerful today -- apologies for my crankiness the other night. That's the problem with this posting every day thing; you get me in all moods
( Read more... )
I've just finished re-reading it (The Long Way) and I've got goosebumps.
Even better than I remembered it. Not only Brian, Justin and Jennifer are spot on, but also the minor (in that context) characters, like Michael, Ben, Debbie, Lindsay. This story is so respectful of canon, of the relationships between the various characters, of how they had developed by the end of 513 and how they could have developed from there on. You can feel the love for the show as it was, not as one wished it had been.
Great rec, my dear. I might go and re-read From A Safe Distance, too, although, it requires one to adjust to a post-S4 perspective: at the moment I really love post-S5 B/J, how far they've come.
I'm so glad you found it even better than you remembered! That's sort of how I felt when I reread it the other day to prepare for my rec. It's such a pleasure to read fic that's not only spot-on in characterization but also written so beautifully. (I don't know which is a bigger squick for me, honestly -- bad characterization or bad writing...)
I hope you enjoy From a Safe Distance if you decide to reread that one. It's true that you have to go back to S4, but Justin and especially Brian come a long way over the course of the fic itself -- so I don't think they're that far from their post-S5 selves in the end, even if they get there a little differently.
I love when you do these things, I love hearing from you every day, even if I don't have a clue about the fandom you're talking about, lol! I know these sort of things ARE a lot of work, though, I toss out links occasionally when I find something I think others might like but doing the whole thing with the formatting, and getting the user names spelled right, and hunting down your bookmarks, and listing ratings and trying to explain exactly WHY you liked it... yeah. Work. But I love it so much when I come across someone's recommendations lists and find something wonderful to read I'd've otherwise missed. So.. know you're appreciated! ♥
Aw, thanks, hon! I'm always all enthusiastic at the beginning of the month and then I start to run out of steam toward the end. :-P I make it harder on myself by not letting myself repeat authors and trying to be all "diverse" (even though the vast majority of my flist is here for the slash), so then I have conversations with myself like, "Hmm, she wrote this really good gen piece and I'm a bit short on gen for the month, but I adore this porny slash one! What to do??" And then I make little lists to help me keep track of things and really turn it into much more of a production than it needs to be, LOL.
But anyway, it's all worth it if people enjoy reading along, so yay. *hugs*

I'm suddenly in a masochistic mood, so now I'm rereading From a Safe Distance. *facepalm* (At least I'm not feeling masochistic enough for death fic!)
