Happy New Year, everyone! I'm not going to do the whole year in review thing because while it was a perfectly good year, it actually wasn't that interesting to anyone other than me ( Read more... )

LJ-Sec will allow you to download entries from any of the LJ clones, as well as upload them to another LJ clone if you want. Far as I know, it doesn't do communities, only journals, and, unfortunately, can't handle tags or mood or music, and I'm not sure it will do icons, either.

Ah, okay, I have LJ-Sec and had used it to upload LJ entries to GJ and IJ -- but I didn't know I could also use it to download entries from the other journaling sites. Obviously I'll play around a little bit, but am I right in thinking that it only backs up entries, but not comments? (LJ Archive backs up comments too, though not icons for comments, woe.) And does LJ-Sec lump all your entries together, no matter which journal you first put them on? *squints*

Nope, it won't do comments, either. Getting it to download from another journaling site is pretty easy; just go into Options at the login screen and change "livejournal.com" to whatever the other site is and then login with the appropriate username and password. There is this other journal migration tool here, which I've never used, because it seemed a bit complicated to me (and I'm too lazy to learn to use another one, heh), but I'm not sure what it's like, it might be fairly easy to use. It says that it does comms as well. It also says that while it can download comments, it can't migrate them. :/ Which makes me start to wonder if that's even possible ( ... )

Thanks for the link to the other migration tool. I checked out the user guide thingie and it looks a little intimidating. :-/ I'm too lazy for this stuff, dude.

I guess I can live with all the entries lumped together in LJ-Sec -- in fact, it would be just fine if I could get comments with them. I don't even need to migrate the comments to my IJ (though that would rock) -- I'd just like them backed up somewhere. Ah well.

Thanks for the ideas! I will continue to poke around. :-)

♥ !

And haha, I'm going to make probably the same decision as you next week, but in reverse - all on IJ, with once-a-week pointers from LJ. :)

It's all such a pain, isn't it? *sighs*

It gets so confusing some days that I forget which journal I'm even in and I intend opening a graphics aslyum at IJ and maybe one here at LJ for all my icons etc, when I find time to breath...why do I do these things to myself

Will follow you where ever you are!

Haha, I forget what journal I'm in too sometimes when I'm commenting on other people's posts! I read in both places so it really all blends together, except that I have 10 times as many icons to use when I comment at IJ. ;-) Also, I find LJ's standard layout much easier on the eyes than the black on gray over at IJ.

Will follow you where ever you are!

Thanks, and ditto! *hugs*

I don't care to cross post even though I still do it. I HATE having my comments split up as well. I have some friends that think LJ is Wal-mart and the devil combined and then I have some LJ friends who don't care for Ij *headdesk*. I might follow your lead and just do a weekly post on one or the other pointing to if I have made another post.

*hugs*

The whole thing really is a pain. If I could combine the icons, open/honest communication, welcoming atmosphere, and non-corporateness of IJ with the layouts, features/functionality, and fandom history of LJ -- plus the people and comms from BOTH -- I would be a very happy fangirl. But alas.

There's no perfect solution, but I'll give this one a try. *hugs back*

I only have time for the art now, but wow, what a line up! Unrequited was my favorite - the images of Draco in the water were just beautiful. The fic summaries look very intriguing - especially Problematique. I need a potion that triples time for me!

Hey there, welcome back! Hope you had a nice trip. :-)

I'm glad you enjoyed the art. The Charlie/Draco fic is a wee one (500 words), so if you only have a few minutes that might be a good one to try. But I hear ya -- I could use a time-tripling potion too, since I still haven't quite made it through all the HP holiday fest fics I want to read.
