Has anyone seen the movie Newsies? It's just a corny Disney musical from the early 90's featuring a bunch of singing/dancing newsboys (surely I'm not the only one who sees the appeal), but it was actually my first fandom, before I really even knew what a fandom was. oh my god, Newsies! My friends and I LOVED that movie - we would watch it at every sleepover and party we had. We would sing to it, dance with it, quote the dialogue, imitate the NYC accents. Albeit poorly. We were such Newsies-hors. God, I'd love to hear that soundtrack again. Or see the movie - I haven't seen it in years. But every so often one of my long-time friends mentions it and we get all giggly all over again.

Hee! I had a couple of friends who shared my obsession and we did a lot of the same things. I don't think they read fanfic like I did though, LOL. God, I read so many Mary Sue fics over at fanfiction.net (and I was mentally writing one myself, featuring me of course, though luckily that story never made it to paper). May I be an enormous dork and ask which newsboy was your favorite, if you remember? :-)

Oh, by far Spot, if that was his name. The one who says, Never fear, Brooklyn's here! That's what he says, right, standing on that wall? It's been a while, but I bet if I watched it, I'd remember all the lines. I loved him. *g* I did not like the earnest kid, the main character other than Christian Bale's character. I can't remember his name at all, the one with the sister. He was rather painful to me. But I liked all the rest.

Spot Conlon!!! (I was looking for pictures of him and in one of the ones I found someone had labeled him "Spot Colon." *snicker*) He was my favorite too! I think I got off on how tough and powerful he was supposed to be, the big and mighty leader of Brooklyn, even though in retrospect he looks kind of...spindly, doesn't he?

Yeah, David was the reluctant sidekick. I wasn't a big fan of his either, though one of my friends really liked him.

Dude, I'm going to have to watch this movie again. *facepalm*

Newsies is one of those movies that I really think you have to see at a certain age (like 12) in order to get the full squeeing/obsession effect. :-D It's fun at any age though!
