We had electronic machines urged on us, but both opted for the traditional ballot for reasons of paranoia about the ease of hacking into electronic equiptment. And the lack of a paper trail, though they said this particular machine did have a record?

Polling places in Seattle are never that crowded because almost everyone votes by absentee here. They're actually switching to absentee-only, which makes me sad.

Oh, that is kind of sad! Despite the inconvenience of waiting in lines and stuff, there's something so much more satisfying about actually pressing buttons/pulling levers/whatever and physically doing your civic duty.

Totally! I only ever voted absentee the first two years of college (when I was officially still a resident of my parents' home state), and I think one time since then when we were out of town on election day. I just find it so satisfying to go and actually submit my ballot, particularly since the absentee ballots don't get counted until much later... even though we have to bubble in here, like for standardized tests, and I actually loathe bubbling in with a deep and everlasting passion. :)
