Haha, I'm reading them. I haven't read these books but it's interesting to hear your take on them just as commentaries on writing in general.

Good, I'm glad. I wouldn't expect you to have read these books; they're hardly classics, after all. (But who knows, maybe one or two will crop up that I think are worth actually recommending!) And I always read with an eye to writing issues. Can't help it. It's part of how I see the world...

I enjoy reading these and I'm taking down the ones that you enjoy for future reference.

I'm happy to find out that I'm not the only one who stops when reading a book that just does not grab my attention. Sometimes I sneak and read the back to see what happens but most of the time, I just can't be bothered.

Have I enjoyed any enough to write down? *g* (In the next batch, there'll be a couple.)

And OMG yes, I absolutely put books down. Or simply skip ahead to see if they get better. I figure I'm reading for my own pleasure, so there's no reason to read if it's not giving me pleasure. Life's too short and there are too many books as yet unread.

I'm reading them!

bad choice of surname, IMO
Because it's like taking the Lord's name in vain? ;)

Bwahahahahaha!

In all fairness, I think I'd find ANY hugely iconic public figure's distinctive last name just as distracting. Like, say, Springsteen, to use a less loaded example. :)

I'm reading! I haven't read these books, but I might check them out next time I go to the library.

I don't have any suggestions, though, unfortunately. My romance-suspense novels that I do read tend to be fairly predictable - headstrong, independent, stubborn, beautiful woman finds handsome, stubborn man. They "hate" each other, "hate" turns to lust, they have sex in between some suspenseful, tragic event, then they avoid each other, then decide they're madly in love after a near-death experience and want to get married.

I love your description of a romantic suspense novel! That sums most of them up, doesn't it? Well, if you add that at least one of the characters -- usually the man -- is FBI or a cop or an ex Marine or an ex Special Forces or Black Ops dude. Oh, and a series recently sold with an elite force of firefighters. Variations on a (narrow) theme.

Still with me? No, I didn't think so.
I had to laugh here. I've read London's books before but if you asked me, I would not be able to recall the title or plot. Then again, I guess that's the idea--a brief escape with no wear on the brain.

I haven't read Lowell since the 80s and I loved her stuff back then. I can't speak to anything to writes now.

I thought of you the other day as I came across an ad for the next book in that teen vampire series. Stefanie Meyer's (sp?) new book. I can't even recall if I even READ the last book in the series. I know eventually I started just skimming the books. Who knows?

Then again, I guess that's the idea--a brief escape with no wear on the brain.Totally. London absolutely epitomizes bubblegum reads. Cotton candy fluff for the brain that is nevertheless pleasantly written, an important factor for those of us who care about such things. I think she purposefully avoids writing honest, non-contrived drama, though. Maybe her brain just isn't wired for that ( ... )
