I've been seriously AWOL, haven't I? In part, I'm incredibly busy finishing the first draft of my new novel. In part, well, I began this LJ because VM got under my skin in a very particular way. Even though it wasn't objectively the best TV I'd ever seen, nothing else ever has had that specific effect on me. Rewatching episodes, wanting to talk

Understandably, you are busy! Glad you popped by. I'm loving Chuck, too, and can not wait for BSG to come back.
If you need anything to help fill in the emptiness from the WGA strike, let me know and I'll rec some shows to ya.
Keep checking in whenever you can.

Thanks! I may just do that. For now, I've got a list; maybe I should post it, huh? But it includes The WIre, Life on Mars, Firefly, Wonderfalls, and various other shows I've been curious to check out for ages. If I run through those, I'll definitely turn to you guys.

You're right about that for sure. It's kind of funny thinking about the first season in comparison to the rest of the show, because it gets so, so much better. So it's definitely good that you like it so far. My friends actually had a really hard time getting me to watch it because I was really unimpressed with the first season and sort of resistant to watch any more. But once I got about midway through the second season, I was absolutely hooked. And the dialogue is just awesome, once you get used to their whole style of talking. Dialogue is definitely one of Joss Whedon's strengths.

Oh, I agree! You also see that in Firefly/Serenity as well, there are so many great lines from his shows.

A bit of personal trivia: My husband was offered a job on Buffy and turned it down because he was on a show (a low profile show, with a horrid commute and mediocre pay). I chewed him out for that. He could have switched, he just didn't know he could. The Dawson's Creek offer came along a week later. He consulted me on that one. :)

I look forward to your book reviews, I want to read more this year and the biggest problem for me is finding a book, it is a bit overwhelming stepping into a bookstore and not knowing where to start.
I hope you enjoy watching BtVS, it really takes you on a journey and by the time you get to the season finale and they show clips of the first season, it just hits you on how much the characters grown. I look forward to Joss' new show, whenever that might be.
Good luck on your novel!

I know what you mean re. books/bookstores. I definitely learn about books before I go. Right now I'm on a total genre kick.
Good luck on your novel!
Thanks! I'm aiming to finish the first draft in the next few weeks.

Chuck is a delight, but somehow I'm not as invested as I was with VM. It doesn't push my buttons in the same way, I guess. And I watched BSG after the fact, so I don't know what it's like to be caught up in an ongoing discussion.
And yeah, LJ fandom is pretty damned quiet right now. Honestly, the Writer's Guild strike has been my new obsessive fandom. Kind of funny, that.
I'll try to post more on Buffy as I watch it.
