Mary's lecture at Transy U

Mar 10, 2010 23:43

I just got back to the hotel after MM's lecture. It was utterly fascinating, and Mary looked fab. She really is tiny in person! There were no pictures or videos allowed, and I didn't have anything to take notes with, so this is just from my admittedly hazy memory. Right now I'm still kind of processing it all. I'll make another post with some of ( Read more... )

kenan lecture series, so voting for mm in 2012

It sounds amazing! I'm waiting to hear what she said, so you'd better remember it all!

I'm jotting down notes! I'll write as much as I remember. :D She told a great story about having a hard time firing a shotgun and killing a man in Matewan. She said that she had a really difficult time with the emotions of it, and that the first time she started sobbing after firing a shot. The director yelled, "Cut!", of course. ;) The next time she tried she was shaking too much, so she asked to take a minute to work with the ammunition guy off to the side of where everyone else was. He told her that she was thinking of it the wrong way. That the shotgun wasn't a tool of destruction, but something that in this case was enabling her to save her town, the people there, and possibly her life and her son's. Mary liked the way he thought of it, and that we women all have a "Mama Bear" inside of us that will take care of things this way, and that she has never had trouble with shotguns or protective violence since then. Well, that's obvious with Roslin. ;D

Well, I was there! What row were you in?

Will you be there tomorrow? MMD does have a calming effect on people. She's just amazing. I'm still in awe of it.

Where were you sitting? I was in row Q, in an aisle seat all the way on the right. I think I'm in awe too!

I don't think they were prepared for her naughtiness with a couple of the jokes. ;) What did she say about men liking women working above them?

Is it a Q&A tomorrow? Hopefully I can make it!

I was in the second row. Right up close! I was on the left, but I had an isle row closer to the middle.

She definitely suprised them with a bit of...innuendo. Haha. She had me cracking up.

I think she is having both a teaching, then Q&A or it is just an Open Hour...which I assume is the Q&A.

Ah, so lucky! ;D I would have been mesmerized by the extra Maryness.

LOL, she had the young guy next to me blushing.

I'll probably get there early to try and get a good seat.

She seemed to love Dixon! She said that she had very little time to prepare, and that the Grey's people got her to meet with four college (I think?) students with Aspergers who had quite severe cases. She said that as an actress she didn't want to be afraid to really play a character who is different, and who is quite brilliant. She didn't want to just play a "slightly odd" character. I believe she said something about Dixon being very far outside of the Grey's box... or she pantomimed a little box shape when talking about Dixon being different from them anyway. :D Oh! I almost forgot. She doesn't know if Dixon is coming back but she isn't ruling it out.

I hope they do her character justice if she does come back.
