Wow, you summed up EXACTLY how I felt after seeing the movie! Now, you know how much of a Doggett & Reyes fan I was when the show was on (I know not everyone shared this feeling too), so, in the beginning, I wasn't sure if I was going to see a XF movie without them in it, but I resigned myself to going because of my love for Mulder & Scully. But, after I got out, I felt like I wasn't watching the same folks I grew to love from the show. I was, um, underwhelmed.
The worst part is I feel like I can't express that to many folks without sounding like a bad fan. :(
I think the time I got the most excited was when Skinner came on-screen, probably because he was the biggest connection to the FBI/X-Files unit. *SQUEE*
Maybe if all the talk about Chris Carter doing a third movie around 2012 when the supposed end of the world is going to happen it will be more a mytharc movie.
So, they are obviously together, the passion just wasn't there.
This puts words to something I couldn't put a finger on, so thanks. There was no passion even when they were fighting. (I guess because the fight was a rehashing of the same stuff you'd think they'd gotten over years ago.)
As for Doggett & Reyes, can you believe I didn't think of this until I got home? And this coming from someone who loved the characters, though wasn't pleased with the overall execution of S8-9.
I think I was so involved in being disappointed in what I was seeing onscreen that this didn't even register. But how doubly insulting! I can see them not being in the movie. But the fact that they didn't even get a passing mention is not just insulting to the fans who stayed on, but to the actors who did a good job in a difficult situation.
