Chapter 1

Chapter 2

Chloe froze in shock.  Her hand was still shoved between her thighs, the other under her t-shirt covering her left breast.

She must look like a hot mess.  And she’d been writhing and breathlessly moaning his name with her hands all over her body’s intimate places.

Shit. Shit!!

She scrambled out of bed and shot to her feet, intending to head straight for the bathroom, but her feet got caught in the tangled-up blankets and jeans hobbling her ankles, and she pitched forward with a shriek.

“I’ve got you,” Clark said, his arms around her before she hit the floor.  “Are you okay?”

“What the hell are you doing here?” she screamed.  She struggled to her feet and yanked her pants up angrily.  “You can’t just barge into my bedroom in the middle of the fucking night!  What were you thinking?”

“You called me!” he said defensively.  “You were calling for me, I thought you were in trouble!”

“I wasn’t calling you, I was - oh, God!” she covered her face in utter mortification, her face on fire. There was no mistaking what she had been doing when he’d walked in.

“I guess I shouldn’t have seen that,” he murmured.

She glared at him.  “Ya think?”

“I just never expected you to be doing… you know,” he said lamely.

“And I never expected you to bust into my room in the middle of the goddamn night without knocking, either!” she shot back.

“But you were saying my name!”

Her cheeks burned with shame.  “Yes, I was,” she said through gritted teeth.

His eyes widened further as the penny finally dropped.  “So you were thinking of me while you were…?”

“No, I just scream out your name no matter who I’m thinking of when I masturbate!” she yelled, then cringed.  “Oh, shit.  This is so…oh, God. Just let me go, will you?”

His hands loosened their hold on his arms, but didn’t release her completely.  He stared at her, and she turned her face away.  “And stop looking at me like that!”

“Like what?”

“Like I’m some lonely, desperate, horny freak.”

He shook his head.  “I’m not looking at you like that.”

“Yes, you are.”

“I’m not, I’m just… still surprised that…it was me.  I mean, I’m not exactly fantasy material, here.”

He had no idea. Just the gentle touch of his hands on her arms was making her insides turn to mush, and she was still twitching from her unfinished business.  Oh, the shame…!

She scowled at him.  “What I do in the privacy of my own head and home is my own business.” She wedged her arms free of his hold and strode across the room.

He raised a brow.  “Even when it involves me?”

“It doesn’t involve you!”

“You said my name!”

“That was all in my head, you idiot!” she snapped, whirling around to face him.  “I know you don’t want me that way, and I’m mortified that you saw and heard what you did, but… hey, it was just a bit of fantasy, okay?  It’s all my imagination.  Don’t worry about it.”  She turned on her heel and headed straight for the sanctuary of the bathroom, grabbing her pyjamas as she went.

“But why me?” he asked through the closed door.

She sighed.  “Just forget about it, Clark!”

“Why not some hot, rich young model or actor, or Jimmy, or…” he frowned.  “Come to think of it, where is Jimmy?”

“Haven’t got a clue,” she replied stiffly, pulling her pyjamas on.

“Huh,” he said lamely.  “I thought he was hurting you, that’s why I rushed over here.”

“I kicked him out when he started getting fresh with me,” she replied.  She opened the bathroom door and stepped back into the room.  “And you needn’t have worried, I can certainly defend myself from the likes of him.”

“I know, but I just didn’t want to take the chance that he might be giving you some… unwanted attention.”

She started pouring herself a glass of water, then paused.  “How did you know Jimmy was over here?”

Clark’s eyes flashed with guilt as Chloe regarded him with a narrow-eyed stare.

Great. It was bad enough that he’d barged into her room unannounced and seen a whole lot more than he’d bargained for. Now she probably considered him a professional stalker.

“Well?” she demanded.

He lowered his head.  “I, um… I saw him come in here earlier.”

“You were here?” she said, surprised.  “What were you doing here?”

“I was coming to see you,” he confessed.

“You need my help with something?”

“No, why would you think that?” he asked defensively.

“Er… because you usually do,” she said dryly.

“Well, I don’t, not this time,” he replied, hurt.  “I was just… coming to see you.”

Chloe fixed him with an odd stare, and it suddenly occurred to Clark that she had a valid point.  He almost always did need her help with one thing or the other whenever he turned up unannounced at her door, more so since she’d discovered his secret.  It hadn’t always been like that, but he could see why she would regard him with caution for just popping over on the spur of the moment to do nothing else but just ‘hang out.’

One day, you’re gonna walk in here and see something you really don’t want to see, Clark, she’d often teased him jokingly when he breezed into her room without warning.  Well, he certainly hadn’t minded seeing her pleasure herself tonight, but she was clearly mortified about the whole situation.  He, on the other hand, was glad with how things had turned out.  His impromptu visit had revealed that Chloe clearly thought about him a lot more than she let on, and not at all in a platonic way.  Maybe that kiss had meant a great deal to her too, after all; she just didn’t want to admit it.  And she probably never would, unless…

…unless he categorically showed her that he felt the same way.

“So you were coming to see me to just… hang out?” she asked, her brows knitted together in a confused frown.

“Well, yeah.” And to kiss you again, and tell you I love you, and want to be with you more than anything, his mind supplied.  He stared numbly as she leaned against the wall and sipped at her water.  I should be telling her all this, damn it; not just thinking it.

“You should have come up, then,” she was saying.  “You know you’re welcome here anytime.”

“I didn’t want to get in the way.  I mean, I know you and Jimmy are…” he paused.

“We’re what?” she asked.  “Go on; what do you think Jimmy and I are?”

“Well…he slept over the other night, didn’t he?” he finally replied, a hard edge to his voice.

Her eyes narrowed.  “Yes, Clark, he slept over.  Slept being the operative word, because nothing else happened, not remotely.”

He shot her an uncertain look.  “Are you sure?”

“My cousin was sleeping less than six feet away!” she said, scandalised.  “What kind of person do you think I am, Clark?”

“I don’t know, I just…” he got to his feet and ran a hand through his hair.  “You definitely didn’t have sex with him?”

“No!”

“Thank God,” he muttered under his breath.

“And what does it matter to you, anyway?” she challenged.  “It’s not like you want to sleep with me, is it?”

Clark opened his mouth to deny it, and then stopped.  This was it; this was just the opening he was waiting for.

Tell her, his mind urged.  Tell her now.

“Clark?” she asked, staring up at him.  “You don’t want me like that… do you?”

He swallowed.  “Actually…” Now, you pussy!

“What, Clark?” she urged.

“When I said I was here to hang out earlier… I lied.”

Her features clouded over and she folded her arms and nodded.  “So you do need something.  I see.”

“No, you don’t see,” he replied softly.  “Because up until now, I’ve never let you see.”

She frowned.  “I don’t understand.”

Clark slowly walked over to where she was standing and took the empty glass out of her hand. His heart pounded hard as he and set it down, then gently framed her face in his hands and looked into her questioning eyes.

“I know I said I just wanted to hang out, but what I really wanted to do… was this.”

His fingers shifted until his hand gently cupped the back of her neck; then he slowly lowered his mouth to hers and claimed her lips.
