I haven't the foggiest idea of what you're talking about.

When I was drafting out this chapter sometime in June, the idea to have it be a dream hit me, and I scrapped the idea because it was too evil.
Then, when I thought about it, the concept just seemed to make more and more sense.
I justify it based upon the fact that the first chapter spent so much time establishing Castiel's desire for Dean, and I wanted to establish that Dean has a big, flaming thingy for Castiel and set up some mutual tension so the consummation in chapter 3 will not only make more sense, but will be all the more delicious.

... I spend far too much time rationalizing and analyzing my porn. *headdesks*

I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I couldn't resist the temptation to write a section of this series showing how badly Dean wanted Cas, and I figured this was the perfect way to convey that and torture Dean.

It's so much fun to play around with partial clothing in a smutty context, and I'm so glad you enjoyed that.

I really liked the idea of establishing Dean's thing for Cas before their mutual lustful eye-humping is finally consummated in part 3 (which, rest assured, will be used to put them out of their misery in delicious, smutty ways), and it gave me a chance to take little liberties with Cas' characterization. Writing fantasies is fun.
