Kitten had come to finish setting up her emergency light system within the hotel. She'd started it on another visit to the Blackstone, but had never made it through all the floors. The dragon dragged a small bag full of pebbles with her, and should there ever be a blackout, every pebble of this sort within a certain radius of the dragon would glow with steady light so that people could find their way out in case of attack. She could not power both the Hard Rock and the Blackstone, but would be able to work with whichever was nearer.

Seeing an unfamiliar man in the lounge as she passed through, Kitten trotted across the room and greeted him with a friendly trill. As she was only two feet tall, Eames would have to bend over to read it, but she did have a name tag hanging from a cord around her neck.

((She will absolutely play poker with him! He just has to teach her how. She's very intelligent and a quick study.))

Eames notices the dragon as soon as she enters. He stares without actually staring, flipping the cards over. His brain starts a little panic button flailing as she approaches, because- well, it's a freaking dragon.

When she trills at him, he starts the tiniest bit, then narrows his eyes at her name tag. He cautiously reaches a hand out to lift the tag a bit so he can see, then looks at her.

I'm about to talk to the bloody creature, he thought ironically.

"So you'd be Skysong then, love?"

We can always gloss over that part a bit if necessary! skysung March 25 2011, 12:31:56 UTC
Kitten nodded, gestured to Eames, and chirped a series of sounds that bore a remarkable resemblance to a human question. Hopefully she had gotten the hang of clearly asking for introductions by now.

Curious as to what he had been doing, she stretched upward but failed to gain the altitude necessary for a view of the table. Rather than being discouraged by this stumbling block, she went to the other side of the table and clambered with some difficulty up onto the chair opposite him. Kitten leaned her neck out over the table to look at the cards with interest. She wasn't certain what the system was behind their layout, and wondered whether they had a particular meaning.

i should be able to wiki it pretty well, but i may take you up on that triedinception March 25 2011, 16:40:02 UTC
Eames raised his eyebrows, but understood the message. As a reader of people and an observer, it wasn't terribley difficult to translate that to creatures, especially an intelligent one like Kitten.

"Eames, darling, the name is Eames," he told her, leaning back so that she could get a look at the cards. They were set up in three-draw solitaire, though he'd likely have to reshuffle soon.

"...So, you can understand me then?"

With the spectacle - a delicious spectacle but one all the same- that her clothing made, Eames had already noticed Jennifer. Still, he smiled to himself a bit when she looked at him and then approached.

He looked up, a charming smile on his face as he shook her hand.

"I'm sure I'd remember it if we had," he says. "It's lovely to meet you, Jennifer, I'm Eames." He gestures for her to sit down if she wants, already piling the cards back together.

Having shaken his hand firmly and received the offer to sit down, she took it, pushing the chair back and settling down, the ice in her drink swishing softly as she set it on the table. So yet another charmer had made his way into Chicago, and of course she had run into him. Jennifer was determined to keep her composure as she watched him collect his deck of playing cards.

"Are you new here then?" She asked, sipping from her drink. One leg was crossed over the other, and her fuzzy slippered foot was bobbing softly with the perpetual music of the lounge.

"Just arrived tonight," Eames offered, seeing no danger in admitting to new circumstances just yet. If there was, well, he'd roll with the (hopefully not literal) punches. "Was a bit shaken up about it, but life isn't exciting without a bit of variety, eh?

"I take it you aren't new, though," he observed, shuffling the cards back together with quick but elegant movements, putting on a tiny show.

Shard had decided to head over to the Blackstone, simply because people tended to end up there first, rather than the Hard Rock. And she preferred the coffee there, too.

She stepped inside, pushing her hair back behind her ear as she looked around. She was getting used to figuring out who was real and who wasn't, so the guy with the cards made her pause before she walked over. "I never quite got the hang of solitaire," she admitted, hands in the pockets of her jeans.

Eames is finishing a (successful) game of solitaire, flipping cards onto their respective piles. He looks up when Shard approaches, and his eyes flick quickly over her.

"Even the best of players is going to lose half the time," he says after a moment, flipping more cards over. "Unless, of course, you choose to cheat when no one's looking." He tosses a small smirk her way now. "Care to have a seat, love?"

Most people at least pause at something. The dark hair contrasted with blonde hair can be explained with bleach or dye. The M over her right eye could just be a weird tattoo. (It is, kind of.) The eyes, completely white with no visible pupil or iris? That tends to at least get some reaction.

It's kind of nice when it doesn't, though. Shard smiles, pulling off her jacket and draping it over the back of a nearby seat. "Don't mind if I do," she says, offering her hand. "The name's Shard, though."

Eames is sitting in a room full of ghosts, with no clear idea how he got to Chicago, and taught a dragon how to play poker earlier. Someone looking less than normal isn't that strange right now, and if she's not attacking him and can speak, well, then she's a possible source of information.

He takes her hand and shakes it, taking a closer look at her for a brief moment. "Just Eames is fine," he tells her with a cheerful smile. "Interesting name, though."

Eraqus was on his way out of the hotel...nowhere in particular, but there was no sense in staying here since both of his students were out. On his way out, however, he spotted a man he didn't recognize sitting alone with a card game in front of him. Eraqus knew a few card games, but hadn't played in years.

Intrigued, he walked over and stopped before the man. All the card games he knew from his younger years required at least two players. "Expecting more players to join you?"

Eames had a brief thought of Saito when Eraqus approached, glad he had seen the man awake on the plain, and sane. He grinned when the other spoke, leaning back from his game in a lazy sprawl.

"If there are players willing to join," he says, gesturing to a seat before offering a hand. "Eames." His glass of alcohol now sits warm in his stomach, a pleasant barely-there buzz.

Eames appeared very laid back for being a new arrival to an unknown world...perhaps he was a normal resident here and he just hadn't met him yet. Nevertheless, he took the offered hand and shook it before taking a seat. "Eraqus."

Well, this could be interesting. "You will have to explain the game to me; I'm afraid it's been awhile since I have played any."

Eames would love to pass as a normal resident, though he also won't say he is if he's asked, directly.

"Eraqus. Unusual name," he says, shuffling the cards back together. "Have you ever played poker before then, or will this just be a refresher course?"

Care to meet another lady? lady_glaive March 27 2011, 05:01:09 UTC
Kel dragged herself through the doors out of the rain, dripping wet. Her patrols had gone fairly well, but the constant barrage of elements definitely hadn't helped. She wanted to go take a hot bath to soak out all of the ice and mud that had been packed into what seemed like every crevice in her clothing.

However, halfway through the lobby, she paused. Turned. And approached the man sitting at the table, making sure to let her boots squelch to announce her presence. After attempting (mostly unsuccessfully) to clean it on her breeches, Kel extended her hand. "Keladry of Mindelan, pleasure to meet you. Did you just arrive?"

Kel reminds him of Ariadne - not in appearance but the fact that, like her, she was soaked to the bone. He gives a small chuckle and takes her hand, heedless of the fact that her fingers feel like ice cubes against his palm.

"I did, Keladry. The name is Eames, dnd not that I'm not most flattered, but shouldn't you be more worried about getting dry and warming up than greeting me?"

Kel smiled. "I am a bit damp, aren't I?" She glanced at the puddle forming by her feet and back at Eames after letting go of his hand.

"I think I'll go dry off. Would you like somebody to play cards with afterwards? I promise I won't count cards like my friend Neal does."

"You're absolutely soaked, darling," Eames says, a careful smile on his face as he lays on the innuendo, though he's not sure if she'll get it.

"I'd be delighted to play a game of cards with you. And I promise I won't count the cards either," He winks at her, filing the name "Neal" away as someone to investigate.
