Ryou knew that he really should listen to the advice Jennifer had given him about not wandering through the city alone. But he still didn't believe that he'd made any further progress in making friends than he had the night he helped (though it was questionable whether or not his contribution actually counted as "helping") break into the water tower

"Well..." For some reason he didn't quite understand, Ryou reached into his coat pocket and wrapped his hand around his Duel Monsters deck. Well, he still had the Millennium Ring, so theoretically, he could...

...And that was a very dangerous line of thought right there. Calling on the Shadow Realm's powers for aid was something the Spirit of the Ring would do, and anything that had to do with him was almost guaranteed to be bad news. Ryou would be better off taking his chances with a sword instead.

So then, why couldn't Ryou shake the feeling that his cards were the best weapons he could hope for out here? "I might have an idea, but it's pretty far-fetched," he admitted.

Riku watched Ryou's movement, and then raised an eyebrow at the shorter youth. "Anything is better than nothing here from the looks of it," he said off-offhandedly, curiosity getting the better of him. "What is it?"

Ryou sighed and pulled out his deck, showing a few of the cards to Riku. "Back in my world, this is more than just a game," he explained. "It's a long story, but the important part is, certain people can summon the monsters and magic in the cards for real. And..." He paused, hesitating to say the next part out loud. "...I believe I'm one of them."
