The second his wards went off, Ebenezar was on his feet, hand reaching for the door. A blast of air opened the hotel room door in front of him, and he stepped into the hallway, wearing a pair of pajama bottoms and pointing his staff down the corridor. The lights faded slowly back to a warm, yellow glow as he demanded, “Did anybody see what happened?”

Fletcher had had trouble sleeping, anyway. When he heard the scream, he instantly got to his feet and, perhaps unwisely, opened his door and peeked out. "What happened? Wh-what did happen?" he asked meekly.

Still awake when the lights flared red, Charity gripped the pile of metal in her lap. Unfinished, but it was better than nothing. Ordinary lightbulbs shouldn't be able to turn that color. She made her way into the next room and retrieved a Kevlar vest from her in-progress emergency kit, slipping into it and quickly fastening it around her, following it up with a slightly lopsided chainmail coat. One side was closer to finished than the other. Sledgehammer in hand and a small sheathed knife with a simple cross-shaped guard tucked into the belt she put over it, Charity paused for a moment before hooking a nail gun onto the belt as well ( ... )

"Don't know yet," Ebenezar said, gathering up his will. He sent a whisper of power down his staff and the tip glowed a soft, cool blue. His words were clipped, tense, perhaps not the most reassuring to a young boy, but Ebenezar's main focus was on the hallway. "Stay behind me, boy. And in front of Mrs. Carpenter."

The wards' shock was fading, making it hard for Ebenezar to pinpoint where they had been activated. On the other hand, it meant whatever had brushed up against his wards was small. "I don't suppose you felt anything before the lights went off, ma'am?"

Elaine had been going through her notes from her observations about Chicago, wondering what sort of spell she could conjure to get more information. While not liking the idea of calling some demon from the Nevernever, it wasn't as if a plethora of other choices sat in front of her. She rubbed her eyes wearily, glancing at the clock. Funny how in some cases, time still mattered.

She was about to call it a night and attempt to get some sleep when the lights in her room suddenly burned red, and, almost instantaneously, she felt as if she had been mildly shocked by some unknown source of electricity. But she knew it for what it was - magic. Swinging her legs off the bed, she Listened very carefully to the sounds of the hotel and its occupants.

She heard the scream and that was all it took.

Shaking out the slave-ring that she hadn't removed earlier, she silently stepped out into the hallway, and glanced around, trying to pinpoint the source of the scream.

It never failed. Harry had finally, finally gotten to sleep, and about ten seconds later he'd been shocked awake right before the screaming had started.

Only taking long enough to grab his staff, Harry didn't even bother to throw a shirt on before he opened the door dressed only in some battered old pajama bottoms. Glancing up and down the hallway cautiously while Listening, exposing as little of his body as possible in the process, he gripped the wood tightly in his hand, ready to unleash his energy at a moments notice. Getting shot had given him a much needed wake up call, shown him he was getting sloppy and careless. He wasn't going to give whoever had taken a shot at him another chance.

While his cursory inspection of the hall showed no enemies, it did reveal a very familiar face. "We really have to stop meeting like this Elaine."

Elaine glanced a few doors down, slightly startled. She knew that most of those who had arrived a few days would be staying in the hotel, and yes, she had made a note to talk to Harry and swap stories as soon as possible, but she had never gotten around to it. A mistake on her part - he should have been the first person she had gone to.

She raised an eyebrow at him and smiled. "At least I didn't get tackled by that dinosaur you call a dog this time."

Once upon a time seeing Elaine would have stirred up all sorts of painful memories and complex feelings, but after his fresher wounds, and Elaine's actions to save the lives of innocents at a terrible risk to herself, now all Harry felt was glad to have someone else here he could trust. It was nice that after all they had been through, he could consider Elaine something of a friend again.

"Please, we both know that Mouse is a perfect gentleman. I'm far more likely to tackle you to the ground and slobber all over you," Harry replied with a smirk.

It was hard to sleep, Karrin found, when there were so many things going through your mind. Days after arriving here and she was still trying to piece several puzzles together at once. It was hell on her sleep schedule and so she found herself staying up at odd hours just...thinking.

She wasn't quite prepared when the lights flared red. Karrin was just reaching for her gun when she heard the scream and bolted up faster. The red lights were one thing but a scream like that meant real trouble. Something tangible and likely something connected to all the other screwed up things in this place.

Before she knew it she was out in the hallway with her gun in hand and looking around like she expected any number of things to rear out from the hallway. Cautiously, she made her way down the hall to find back-up.

She stared into Declan's eyes, hunger encroaching on her thoughts as she thought of what she truly desired. Not what the beast inside her wished for-Clare sat at her computer, working on a story. She wasn't going to post it, nowhere to post it really. However writing calmed her down a little, and she wasn't having an easy time sleeping. Yesterday she had discovered some odd things, in the morning she would continue her research. The downside of her writing was it made her homesick ( ... )

Spin was amongst the hoardes who, for some unfathomable reason, didn't find it all that easy to sleep after being transported to a spooky town that had a bunch of bizarre people and an overall aura of not-rightness about it. Weird, huh. Nerves made it so he couldn't keep to pacing in his room, taken instead to strolling around the halls of the hotel, for lack of any immediate ideas for what to do ( ... )

It was good Karrin had enough self-control not to shoot. She wasn't the jumpy sort and she couldn't afford to be after all she'd seen. Besides, supernatural creatures didn't tend to make as much noise as Spin did coming around the corner. Karrin pulled back just as he did. "Just stepped out myself. I'm not sure what's happening yet but something tells me it's not good. I'd say 'not normal' but I don't think we've established normal for this place yet." She kept her gun low, pointed towards the ground, but at the ready ( ... )
