Maureen might not be staying at the Blackstone, but that didn't mean she couldn't check the inhabitants it out. It might be the quieter of the two hotels, from what she'd been told, but that didn't mean she couldn't take a look...

Wandering through the hotel, she paused by the gym, watching the tiny girl wail on the punching bag. Her lips quirked as she leaned against the door frame. The girl's technique sucked. Maureen was no fighter, but she knew that much.... But the strength from those punches. She tilted her head. "I guess it's true... The smallest packages come with the hardest punches. That's some punch you have, babe."

Maureen's brow furrowed a little, but she smiled at the girl all the same. "Well... I wouldn't say that. Even I can't punch like that."

She held up her arm and flexed a little, teasingly. "No, I don't. I stay over at the Hard Rock... Thought I'd come check it out... It's nice to meet you, Clare.... I'm Maureen."

She pushed herself off the door frame and walked over, holding her hand out politely.

Having finally gotten thoroughly sick of his wards blinking red in the middle of the night whenever some fool child walked through the lobby, Ebenezar had gone with something simpler, something that only alerted him if anything Fae or vampire crossed the boundary of the Blackstone. It was less effective, but it meant Ebenezar had more time to devote to things other than babysitting his wards.

He had been on his way out, to pick up groceries, when the sound of irregular punches came from the corridor. Frowning, he followed them until he found the exercise room, and Clare whacking away at the hanging bag with about as much skill as a newborn foal trying to take its first steps.

Ebenezar knocked on the door with his staff (given what was in this Chicago, he went nowhere without it) before stepping inside. "Ain't expecting someone like you to hit quite so hard, Miss Edwards."

Clare's answer provoked a grunt of something like annoyance or disapproval from Ebenezar, directed at the vampires more than the young woman. "Bad enough to bring old wizards into this idiocy," he grumbled. "Ain't right to bring children into it." He watched the hanging bag sway a few times, then shook his head.

"But I suppose if you're here there ain't much I can do about it. Except show you how to throw a proper punch so you don't hurt yourself." There was a reflective quality to Ebenezar's words, as if the old man was only half paying attention to Clare. He blinked, surprised, as her words percolated through his own thoughts. "Something to help?" he echoed. "Ain't those steroid nonsense, I hope."

Winry sighed in relief, pushing through the gym doors, Toph with her. "There she is!" She walked toward the heavy bag, frowning a bit at the sight of Clare's punches. "You should keep your wrists straighter. You're going to break them if you tried to hit someone with them bent like that." She'd learned too much about fighting watching the Elrics spar - and also from her grandmother and Mr. Garfiel, who insisted Winry study the movements of fighters and dancers, both, to better learn how the motions of limbs affected their owner.

Toph once again had to be led through the streets of Chicago because of the fact that it was freezing and she was forced to wear slippers. Once she and Winry entered the building, she kicked them off and stuffed them in the large pockets of the jacket that Winry had gotten for her earlier.

The earthbender grinned at Winry's suggestion. "Yeah. A good punch looks like this." She immediately punched Winry in the arm as hard as she could. She missed doing that to Aang and Sokka.

Rubbing her upper arm, Winry tossed a scowl Toph's way, knowing it was useless, and followed up by punching her in the arm just as hard as Toph had hit her. Before her younger friend could respond, Winry took a few steps out of range. "Yeah! We're looking for you for some help." Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a communication device, wagging it. "I've torn one of these things apart but that doesn't really tell me what I need to do to make it work for Toph," she waved a hand at her companion, "so we're hoping you can help us."

She caught sight of a silver ring that looked familiar, and Winry wondered if Clare also had received one of Lara's 'gifts'.
