Still, it would be against his character to back out now. He nodded to Clare, "I am ready and I think it best if we stayed positive."

But now, there was more to worry about...such as that unsettling cottage up ahead, and the large owl that appeared to be guarding it. He tightened his grip on the Keyblade, mentally steeling himself for whatever would undoubtedly jump out to try and stop them.
"If it is the only plan we have, then we must go through with it," he stated simply.

He only hoped it wasn't somewhere in the woods - it didn't look like those even ended.
"I wonder if anyone's home," he mused aloud, moving without caution towards the door. "The lights are on, at least."

He did not move his eyes from them even as the owl took off, "Some of you should follow the owl. The rest of us will stay behind and ensure they do not pursue." Kaldur didn't wait to see who stayed and who went with the owl. There was no time for that. Instead to ensure that the horses didn't follow he twisted one of his water bearers into a whip and cracked it against the ground beside the horses hooves, "Hee-yah!"
As he pulled the water whip back he made sure to crack it again against the horses' bodies. Yeah, that would get their attention.

His hand darted for his knife as he gestured to the others to go on and follow the owl. Being lent Harvey's gun was looking like a better idea now, but if he could get away with not using it, he was going to. Kaldur occupied the three great beasts, so he took the chance to slink behind. It was probably pointless to hope his dark clothes would conceal him in the dark; it honestly wouldn't surprise them if they could see in the dark. But he still tried, swiftly leaping to slash at the joint on the back of one of the horse's legs.

"Giddyup, kids!" He called out with a grin. "I think we got things covered on this end!" Slots and compartments in his arms flipped open all over, missiles and bullet shafts all at the ready as the big man put himself between the massive fae and the other group. A barrage of bulletfire--yeah, iron bullets--would make sure the creatures wouldn't go after the retreating team.

But the owl on the roof turned away and flew up and past the unicorns. Fight or seek... The owl was helping them find the last artifact and pillar. It had to be.
Another glance at the horse-like beasts was all it took for Derek to realize with a heaviness in his chest that if he stayed here, he wouldn't be much help. A mission as he was wouldn't succeed. Instead, Derek held onto what he could hear from the owl, knowing what he truly needed to do. There wasn't time to hope that the unicorns wouldn't notice the shock of red in the surrounding green as the owl flew quickly out of sight.
Forget what the unicorns could do to him as he followed the owl. Run.

The unicorns caught his eye as they exited. They were hardly the creatures that he had seen in tapestries as he grew up. Anything but. The knight checked his sword, but he wasn't going to fight. He did hang back slightly, though, making certain the lady went before him, at least.

But there was no time to debate one choice or another...at this point, he just had to trust that those fighting would be able to take care of themselves. He grimaced, and turned and ran with those remaining after the owl, into the deep and obscuring darkness.
