Kaldur studied their new surroundings carefully before turning his attention back to Clare. He was not sure what the outcome of this would be but they didn't really have an option for failure here. He had spent a great deal of his time in the other Chicago doing reconnaissance and even that had not prepared him for what they were about to do.

Still, it would be against his character to back out now. He nodded to Clare, "I am ready and I think it best if we stayed positive."

There was barely time for Eraqus to get his bearings in this real Chicago before they were taken off to someplace else...to find the last pillar that they could use against the darkness that was overtaking the city. While he wanted to check in with his students, he knew that his duty came first, and he had to trust them to their own. It didn't stop him from worrying, however.

But now, there was more to worry about...such as that unsettling cottage up ahead, and the large owl that appeared to be guarding it. He tightened his grip on the Keyblade, mentally steeling himself for whatever would undoubtedly jump out to try and stop them.

"If it is the only plan we have, then we must go through with it," he stated simply.

It didn't take long for Sora to adjust to his new surroundings - he quickly looked around at the trees, the mist, and the cottage before frowning in determination. Somewhere around here was the object that could save the city and everything else - they just had to find it.

He only hoped it wasn't somewhere in the woods - it didn't look like those even ended.

"I wonder if anyone's home," he mused aloud, moving without caution towards the door. "The lights are on, at least."

Just outside, the tremendous and continous pounding of something very large and very fast drew closer to the cabin until out of the darkness, three pairs of demonic red eyes hovered from the black density of the forest. From the level of the approaching eyes, the beasts that were quickly approaching out of the forest's gloom were taller even than Franky, and as they emerged from the darkness, it soon became clear that these gargantuan beasts were perfect guardians to whatever lay deeper in the forests of the Nevernever ( ... )

Kaldur was the first out the door and thus was the first to see what they would be up against. When the horses came forward Kaldur had to give pause because while he had heard the hoofbeats he had not expected them to be without riders...much less for them to be unicorns. Granted, these were not the unicorns he was used to hearing about but something larger and clearly more dangerous.

He did not move his eyes from them even as the owl took off, "Some of you should follow the owl. The rest of us will stay behind and ensure they do not pursue." Kaldur didn't wait to see who stayed and who went with the owl. There was no time for that. Instead to ensure that the horses didn't follow he twisted one of his water bearers into a whip and cracked it against the ground beside the horses hooves, "Hee-yah!"

As he pulled the water whip back he made sure to crack it again against the horses' bodies. Yeah, that would get their attention.

The Ninja-Style Dancer followed close behind Kaldur, and the moment he saw the three unicorns his eyes widened. This was starting to become a pattern he really didn't want to continue; even in Linkara's home he never had to fight things so much bigger than he.

His hand darted for his knife as he gestured to the others to go on and follow the owl. Being lent Harvey's gun was looking like a better idea now, but if he could get away with not using it, he was going to. Kaldur occupied the three great beasts, so he took the chance to slink behind. It was probably pointless to hope his dark clothes would conceal him in the dark; it honestly wouldn't surprise them if they could see in the dark. But he still tried, swiftly leaping to slash at the joint on the back of one of the horse's legs.

Ohoho. Now this, this was Franky's territory of weird. Looking up at the big, bizarre things, it almost felt like home. If nothing else, it was an interesting version of unicorn after having interacted with Sparkles.

"Giddyup, kids!" He called out with a grin. "I think we got things covered on this end!" Slots and compartments in his arms flipped open all over, missiles and bullet shafts all at the ready as the big man put himself between the massive fae and the other group. A barrage of bulletfire--yeah, iron bullets--would make sure the creatures wouldn't go after the retreating team.

The owl's departure was a clear sign for them to quickly bypass the unicorns, leaving the monstrous beasts to their friends and allies and to quickly follow it into the ever-darkening forest. With barely any light, the forest seemed to spring up with roots to trip over and branches to claw at them - all the while plunging into the darkness in search of something that may save them all.

The hoof beats came from something that seemed from twisted nightmare. They sent a shiver down Derek's whole being, despite standing firmly in place and staring in their direction. However, at the light thud from above the group, he spun around. Derek thought for a beat that another had arrived, and they were surrounded.

But the owl on the roof turned away and flew up and past the unicorns. Fight or seek... The owl was helping them find the last artifact and pillar. It had to be.

Another glance at the horse-like beasts was all it took for Derek to realize with a heaviness in his chest that if he stayed here, he wouldn't be much help. A mission as he was wouldn't succeed. Instead, Derek held onto what he could hear from the owl, knowing what he truly needed to do. There wasn't time to hope that the unicorns wouldn't notice the shock of red in the surrounding green as the owl flew quickly out of sight.

Forget what the unicorns could do to him as he followed the owl. Run.

Galahad hadn't spoken up with the fae queens. He hadn't entirely known what to say. It was everything he could manage not to fall to one knee before them. He had bowed, at least, as was proper before ladies and kept his own counsel.

The unicorns caught his eye as they exited. They were hardly the creatures that he had seen in tapestries as he grew up. Anything but. The knight checked his sword, but he wasn't going to fight. He did hang back slightly, though, making certain the lady went before him, at least.

Upon exiting the cottage, they saw the source of the thunder outside...massive unicorns, obviously raring for a fight. However, he had ended up at the back of the group, and already several will drawing weapons to battle the creatures. Meanwhile, the owl took off into the forest, leading them towards the pillar that could save everyone. For a moment, Eraqus hesitated, unsure if he should assist here or go searching. What if Sora succumbed to that darkness form again?

But there was no time to debate one choice or another...at this point, he just had to trust that those fighting would be able to take care of themselves. He grimaced, and turned and ran with those remaining after the owl, into the deep and obscuring darkness.
