Even though it would be scary for obvious reasons, I would support the police - the government treats our essential service people like crap. >(

Given that my old job there is now 'no longer available' - ie been removed due to the new Chiefy wanting more money on officers, so less staff, yet same level (or more) of admin - you'd think I'd be for this.

However, I can anticipate what would happen. Media would whip up panic of mass Al Capone levels of crime, Government would then react to stop ANY potential striking in future (cos of this anticipated crime spree, plus imagined 'hold' public services would then have over them whenever they wanted owt, in the manner of Mags and the Unions). Negative knock-on for other services.

Realistic alternative - work to order, with support at all levels. Backlog would soon build up, Force legal teams would start getting angry, impacting more people without the (illegal) strike, plus attention would be drawn to the sheer amount of work in the first place. For which all public servants should, of course, be paid, but not necessarily be responsible (rehabilitation, etc rather than nick).

They'd bring in the Army, surely? Either way, I am for the Police striking as it would be so extreme the meeja would go NUTS. And that would likely oust this government.

Your average squaddie would tell them where to put their paperwork!

I do understand why this makes you so angry. Have the Police ever considered industrial action (as such) before, do you know? I can't recall it (in modern times at least.)

The last police strike was arounf 1912 and led to the banning of the police union and the creation of the police federation

There hasn't been a need for a police strike as since 1979 there has been an agreement which all sides have agreed to only labour this year and last didn't stick to it ... last year they had to back down and this year they want ot make us suffer

I think I will not be chasing any targets tonight when i go to work!
