Whoa, you took the plot bunny I gave you and just raised it so well! That was excellent! You did a GREAT job! And yeah, it's going to be dark, I mean, Roy just told the little guy about how his dad died. So you're fine. You ROCK!
Stopping here wouldn't be too bad, letting the reader decide on his or her own how Maes uses this knowledge of his father. Or you can continue with how Roy has helped with Gracia's children (i.e. grilling poor Elysia's first boyfriend, or making sure Maes knows ALL sides of the military before he decides whether or not to join).
