Percy had listened to the radio. Percy knew there were kids on the island and Percy really wondered if he and Luke had just gotten lucky yesterday or if their comeuppance was, well, coming. So far, no kids had shown up but Percy remembered last year and he just couldn't quite let his guard all the way down despite no visits just yet

Luke came into the room with a coffee in one hand and a Coke for Percy in the other. 'Cause he was thoughtful like that. "Are we still in the clear?"

He couldn't believe they were kid-free this year after being knee deep in them for the last two.

"Dude, not cool," Luke said, flopping down on the bed. "That kid will try to drown me in my sleep."

"Yeah."

Okay, probably not but still. Had to maintain the tough guy facade.

"What are you guys doing anyway? This is boring."

"Oh I'm sorry that our humble lifestyle doesn't live up to your expectations," he said. "Is there something else Percy and I should be doing?"

Aritaseus rolled his eyes but expected no less from his dad. He'd be concerned if Luke just gave into him or something.

"I dunno, just something more than this," he told them, gesturing to the video games. "I play video games all the time at home."

Luke sighed. "Fair enough. Is there anything you want to do?"

Aritaseus shrugged again and looked around. "Got a sword I could play with? Riptide?"

"Oh yeah that sounds like a fantastic idea." Yeah no. "What do you think, Percy? He should totally get to play with Riptide, right?"

"No one plays with Riptide," Percy said, shaking his head. "Don't you have a sword he can use, Luke? Backbiter's dead but something else?"

"Well I have knives--" Luke started before he realized what he was saying. "What, no, we're not giving you weapons, kid. We'll take you to Mooby's or the beach...something that won't end up with us getting stabbed."

"I wouldn't stab you!" Aritaseus argued, frowning. "You taught me how to use knives, Dad. I'm better at it than other dad!"

That meant you, Percy.

"That's not a surprise, Percy sucks with anything that's not a sword." He's seen you with a bow and arrow, Percy.

"I don't need to be good with anything but my sword," Percy told him, dying yet again on the video game and scowling. "I can beat you both with my sword and my powers."

[trickydemigod]

"Don't listen to him," Luke told Aristaeus. "It's good to learn how to handle different weapons. You never know what situations you'll be thrown into. Your father's too cocky."

"Duh."

Aritaseus had picked up that and had gotten some of that cockiness even.

"And you're not?" Percy retorted.

"I'm as modest as they come." What a liar.
