Where to get clothes made?

Mar 28, 2010 16:56

So my husband is the best man in a wedding this summer, and the groom has decided he wants the men to dress in charcoal suits. My husband has a charcoal blazer/sport coat and, rather than buy a whole new suit, wants to get a pair of pants made to go with it. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place to get a pair of pants custom-made?  ( Read more... )

You could take the jacket in to a store like the Men's Warehouse. They should have something to match and have tailoring services.

yeah, unless he's dead set on getting a pair of pants custom made, this seems like it would be a lot more time and cost effective.

He's actually quite tall, so he didn't relish the idea of going from store to store to find pants that are a) long enough and b) in a fabric similar enough to the jacket that they could be worn together as a suit. I will definitely call the Men's Wearhouse today, though, and see what they have in the way of tailoring services. Thanks!

what's a 'reasonable' price for a custom-made pair of pants? If you are thinking anything less than starting at $500, it's not going to happen. Custom is expensive.

In addition to the other poster's comment about Men's Wearhouse, Nordstrom's and Macy's will also tailor pants to fit for free if you buy them there.

Kuhlman's has some nice stuff that's 'almost' custom - they design and make their own stuff, and they'll tailor it to fit. I'd go there first.

If you want to try for a custom quote, Gian deCaro is very, very good, but you'll pay for it.

Yep, that's about the range we were thinking. Again, he's tall, so custom clothes are the norm. The suits he owns were both custom-made, though not around here.

Kuhlman's sounds like a fantastic option, as does Gian deCaro. Hm, maybe we'll try Kuhlman's for the suit pants and deCaro for a tux, if he does those (my husband's in a choir and neither of us likes the way his current tux fits him).

Thanks for such a helpful response!

'bespoke' is your secret search term to find what you're looking for. These aren't the only two places in the city that do custom menswwear, just the only two I could remember off the top of my head.
