For the previous solstice free-for-all I made a diorama of Buffy and Spike's bedroom in the comics. Then it was Summer, now it is winter -- so I decided to make a Christmas version. Here it is, with a Merry Christmas to all!

Oh I absolutely love this!!! <3 That looks so real and cosy, love how you've clothed them too. Also love that there's a tree in every room! This is a beautiful Spuffy Christmas diorama....you always think of the most creative concepts!

Thank you! It was just a minor update to the original diorama, but it's interesting how a few additions can create a whole new atmosphere. A Merry Christmas back to you!

This is great again DD, I love it. Now I want to know who the parcel is from and what's in it! With the combination of the Christmas trees as a thank you idea there's definitely a story to be told here. :)

Actually I struggled a bit with figuring out the right term in English for this. When I posted the original (non-Christmas) version I used "peepbox", which is closest to how we'd call it in Dutch, but somehow in English it sounds a bit dirty. So when teragramm called it a diorama, I adopted that because it sounds so much nicer (but a bit too fancy, I admit). I had no idea that pop-up is the correct word! That never occurred to me, because I associate it with pop-up books and not with this shoebox type of thing.

(shrugs) I'm sure there's lots of other "correct" terms for it. English is very strange. I apologize; I didn't know about the language barrier. Yes, 'peep box,' sounds really negative, almost like, 'peep show.' "Presentation," could also work, only loosely. There's another one I know works better that I'm trying to think of. I suppose you could also call it, "shoebox art," or a, "ship bottle in a shoebox," or... I guess we have something similar, except you stick your hand in a box and use tactile sensations to guess what something is with only touch; I forgot what we call those. Why don't you just use the term from your own language, in Dutch? A, "model," is the word I'm looking for. You can probably use any combination of the above.

No need to apologize, I take it as a compliment that you didn't know.

In Dutch we'd call it a "kijkdoos" (lit. "look box") but to be fair, although that's what I intended to make it isn't entirely what I ended up with. The traditional thing, generally made by primary school kids, has a semi-transparent lid and a peephole in one of the short sides. Mine has no lid/roof, and I made the walls detachable so I could photograph it better. Also some parts are 3D instead of pop-ups. So it really is more like a model than anything else, really. If I ever make yet another version, I will simply call it that! Thanks for thinking along about this :-)
