Ha, this did not go where I initially thought it might be going, but actually it was much more realistic. It's totally Spike to have done some recon first, and his angry reaction to finding out his date was the Slayer was very believable! Poor Buffy, being stood up by her "dear friend" and then getting it rubbed in by Spike... I look forward to reading more! Oh and Clem was being adorably Clem. ("Oh thank GOD! My life was flashing before my eyes!") I love that you made him a member of Spike's of crew, with Buffy indirectly being the cause of it. Finally, thank you for the little lesson about the US university system :-)

I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you know the source material for the story, then it's not at all surprising. I'm glad my portrayal of Clem was funny and likeable. I recall laughing when I first wrote that scene. That's just the California Universities; the California State Colleges have another set of rules.
This is really fun! Spike antagonizing Buffy as a defense mechanism feels so very, very in character. I <3 your thoughts re: UCSD too. Adding to head canon! And fabulous Clem. I’ve always been a fan; and great idea to deploy him earlier. I expect having him around might head off some of Spike less sensible plans. And more Clem is definitely better!
"his meeting with Dear Friend was in a few hours" gasp! Well, that should be interesting! :))
Oh, good to see Clem!
"She has such a beautiful way with words, such passion in what she says." I'm happy that Spike thinks that about Buffy.
"Any nit knows it's too close to UCLA and UCSB to be a real UC" Fascinating point -- I guess I just imagined that there is no Santa Barbara in the Buffyverse ;)
OMG, I love the "Reptile Boy" reference! "Apparently, his favor on that fraternity was the only thing keeping the college afloat." Amazing.
"my ideas of what's attractive" Very fair, Clem does prefer wrinkly people :)
"I don't want her to be too beautiful." Oh my god, man, get a hold on yourself (sadly, that's going to be the least of his problems in a second)
"she'd rather be dessert with someone else" This metaphor is going great, Clem :D (he's so cute, and the contrast between his down-to-earth, bumbling vibe vs. the big drama Spike's going through is exquisite"do you think that the slayer's attractive

Bearing what you had said in mind, I've revised the chapter. It's an issue in my writing I had thought to have curbed in the past, so thank you for pointing it out.
Yay! I was so pleased to get your message that the second chapter was up. I was really looking forward to seeing this story continuing and wasn't disappointed. Things definitely did not go as either of them had wished, poor things. But only one of them knows the truth of that of course. For now. :P Can't wait to read more. XD
