I like it. Poor Dru - not quite as out-of-it as Spike would like to think. She knows he's met his match. In more ways than one... :)

I'm glad you like it. I asked Derek to read it and he was... why are you writing Dru?

Because that's what my muse wanted, duh!

You say weird like it's a bad thing...
Pre-series Spuffy! How cool! For some reason there doesn't seem to be much of it around. *g* (I fully support Spuffy conquering ALL of time and space.)
LOVE the first impressions. "Easy pickings": mwuahahaha! Spike has not a single clue. ^^
I liked the vamp perspective here, too: "in fifty years or so, maybe he and Dru would come back to see the changes their destruction had wrought".
I think this pre-history story is a wonderful way to open! (And I'll do my best to keep up the weird tomorrow.)

I'm looking forward to it. My first attempts were so very earnest and informative - it got so much better when I put Spike's voice in.

I really enjoyed it...lovely and lyrical as your writing usually is! I love Spike's thought process in coming to California...oh, he's so doomed. ;o)

I hope you do! Every time I read one of your pieces, it touches something in me. That you can do that to people says what a wonderful writer you are....

Nifty! Of course Spru is my second favorite pairing. *shhhhhh* But I always think of Buffy as inevitable for Spike, and I'm positive that Dru knows it. (In my head canon, she's been preparing him for this all along, like a good mummy, even if she sometimes wants to keep her knight for herself.)

For all that this is a reflective sort of flashback, the dialogue (monologue?) is delicious!

I think we were close to the one in India. Though some demon told me her name was India.

Heh. This and his little asides - Wonder of wonders, Dru didn’t wander off and LA was clean, pink and sparkly. Fake and bright, with no dark corners for a respectable vampire - are lovely notes that put him fully in the story, even when we know (as Dru does) that he's being swept along by forces he cannot control.

Thanks for a great start to the round!

I remember reading the Tales of the Slayer and being fascinated by the little glimpse of India the slayer whose death resulted in Buffy the Slayer. I couldn't resist putting her in there at least a little. And then making fun of her.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I love all of Spike's prejudices about California girls, and how that translates into thinking Buffy will be an easy kill. And certainly New York must feel much more like his kind of place than LA. Poor Dru, she must have been dreading this moment for a long time.

I got so caught up in the romance of Chosen (I read so many scripts, trying to find a jumping off point) and then remembered at his heart... Spike is a smart ass. Then I couldn't resist going back to the beginning (I almost retconned Whistler to make him find Spike instead of Angel), and making his doom inevitable.

Thanks for reading and commenting.
