Also, I'm trying to place when this is - this would be sometime circa "Checkpoint," right? So in canon, Joyce hasn't died yet, anyway.

I think the spirit of the scene is very Checkpoint, but it's more that the confrontation between Glory and Buffy has been delayed because there's no Dawn running around getting into trouble and Buffy's been lying low. And I used a fanwank for Joyce here: the monks spell that created and altered people's memories upset the delicate balance of the mind and led to Joyce's illness. So without the memory alteration, Joyce doesn't get sick in this version. Which I know goes against the mundanity people attach to Joyce's death, but I wanted her support in this story and it felt like a nice way to go AU.

I've run across that fanwank before, and I do quite like it. I always appreciate it when apparently unrelated events have a common cause - it feels elegant, you know?

Glory was bitch-ily in character too- ♥ the back and forth between her and Buffy.
