Icon meme!

Had a nice birthday. Weird that I am officially 20. For the actual day, splintercat organized a trip to a Japanese-style karaoke place with private booths and we spent two hours making crazy, loud, off key fools out of ourselves. It was awesome. Also received amazing joke presents from friends from home, wyvernrabbit and enjoyabel:

1) Gone With the Nerd2) Modified standing cut- ( Read more... )

I don't think you've effectively conveyed the awesome of Point 2, i.e. PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

I'll do the icon thing. FYI, one of my icons is of Alexandre Cabanel's Ophelia! As usual, we are secretly the same person... almost. Or I'm mind controlling you to have an icon of a painting of Ophelia that (I looked it up) was painted not too long after the painting of Ophelia that I have an icon of. I'm looking at them now; Cabanel's is prettier, I think, but Waterhouse's is closer to the feeling of Ophelia - she has that crazed air.

Ok, so don't pick this icon, because I just explained it and used it. (Further explanation: it's samplings of different parts of the painting overlaid with text from Rimbaud's "Ophelie", made by yours truly.)

Al is adorable. I want to watch the new one SO BAD.

(Edited to fix FACTS, because Waterhouse actually did multiple Ophelias? and I mixed them up while reading the Wikipedia article. The first was much earlier, only six years, I think.)

Proof will come, perhaps. Maybe in another post.

Actually, Waterhouse did three Ophelias, but yeah, anyway, totally the same person. I really like Cabanel's, but seriously I am 100% partial to Waterhouse, there's no contest. Must agree to disagree on this.

Six icons, huh?

Yeah, wait, what the heck, it's like we planned matching icons of Ophelia. That's so weird. The weirdness didn't fully sink in last night, but now I think it's pretty weird. Well, maybe not that weird.

Why two xxxHolic ones?

Well, I have a Yuuko icon, I was continuing the theme of samesies. Also, you use them frequently and I'm curious about them. Also, I was half asleep when I wrote that comment and just sent it when I woke up today, so maybe I didn't really notice when I picked them out.

Whatever did your roommate say about Mr. Cardboard Spunk Ransom anyway? I am most curious.

once in the middle of the night i kind of half woke up and heard the empty sound of cardboard being knocked into. for one horrible moment i thought liz kicked him in her sleep and he fell on her in a compromising position. no words, no words...

Hahahahaha. I am going to assume you are her roommate?

The entire time we were putting him up, Eli kept talking about how much you were going to hate her for this. I was depressed when she didn't message me when you returned telling me she got killed because of my birthday gift.

... also, if your icon of what I think your icon is of? Because... omgawesome.

Happy birthday! I am late. 8D

So so so I am wondering, I have been wishing for a Japanese-style private rooms karaoke place for a while now and you say there is one here in NYC? That is wondrous news! Did they have Disney theme songs and Rick Astley? Could you tell me where it is?

Pimped and modified cardboard cutouts are the only way to go. Now plant it in your best neighbor's bathroom. Behind the door.

Your icons are faaaabulous, by the by.

Thanks!

And yeah, there are apparently at least two in NYC. The chain is called Japas, we went to the one in the 20s, I think. They had loooooottttsss of Disney songs, although some of them were filed in strange places, I think? I totally wasn't paying attention, I was too busy having fun. We sang a couple of them, I remember. However, we DID NOT sing Never Gonna Give You Up (and now I wish we had!), so I don't know if it was there or not.

I first set Edward up by my roommates bed, so that she had to come all the way into the room before she could tell what it was, and then she was practically in her bed before she could figure it out. Horrifying! She screamed a little! It was awesome! I was gonna move him to the open closet in the dining/common room, just to freak people out when they went to get the cleaning supplies, but I grew attached to him, so he's stayed in the room.

Thanks, again! I'll pick out some of yours, if you want to play...?

Oh man, sweeeet! Sometimes I think private karaoke is the thing I miss most about Japan. I am so excited to know this is here! Thank you! (I totally sang Never Gonna Give You Up at one in Tokyo. It was AMAZING.)

Emma keeps threatening me with a cardboard cutout Nicolas Cage. The only thing saving me is that I don't think there actually is such a thing.

I always like to play icon games! 8D (Especially since most of them shall soon be lost, sob.)
