I resisted getting on Facebook for a long, long time. "I don't need another social networking site. And if people want updates on me, they can just check my livejournal. Heck, I never bother to update my MySpace, why would I update a new network ( Read more... )

Yes, but that still means that if you have a casual casual acquaintance, he and I have "one friend in common," and for some people that's enough of a reason to click "Add as a Friend," and then all of his friends try to add, etc.

It's not a matter of "can I keep track of who's really my friend?," it's "what value is this network to me if I add most of the people who ask?"

You post a lot more on LJ anyway.

But yea if you were so inclined you could sort the friends in various ways. There are even third party apps where you sort them into various lists and circles. But who wants all that work. :-p

I knew there was a reason I hadn't sent you a friend request yet...;) I'm very much of the same mind. :)

Haha. Thanks to this post (and its comments!) I now have not one but TWO more people to add to my ever-growing list.

I have mine trimmed down to only "real life friends" and "internet friends I'd not freak out about having my phone number." It's still pretty damn large. I like it though, because I've gotten to know people who I didn't know very well, and made better friends from it :)
