Fruits Basket 17
Just picked up Fruits Basket 17. Spoilers follow.
It's a really good volume, and not just for the 'Akito is female' spoiler. Kureno gets some fantastic development (Hana and Uo both note his similarity to Tohru, and this becomes even more important in later volumes). And more to the point, Shigure gets some real room to... well, Shigure doesn't grow, does he? He just gets revealed, sort of like peeling an orange. We do get to hear about his feelings for Akito and Kureno, as well as revealing his stated reasons for sleeping with Ren.
Oh, Ren. Forever confused with Rin by poor Western FB fans. You are a really evil bitch, aren't you?
Speaking of Rin, she gets to do a lot of glaring and brooding this volume... and then disappears, something that happens very suddenly. Except it doesn't, clearly time has passed. Takaya has a couple of weaknesses in this work, and one is the horrifically bad way she conveys passage of time. Obviously time passed between the first three chapters of the book and the rest, but that's very unclear.
Also, gotta love the outfits on BoobRin. :) Speaking of which, in 18 we find out what happens to her. It's nice to see, in a manga filled with emotional abuse, that physical abuse still gets a look in.
Oh yes, Comiclist said that CLAMP no Kiseki 8 (the X one) was out this week, but my store didn't get it in. I suspect Diamond is split shipping again.
