Wow, another person without a mobile phone! :) I've managed to avoid that particular trend as well. Alas, I'll have to get one for Gaylaxicon, as we don't have the budget to rent radios for the weekend. :( However, I refuse to be one of those people who has phone conversations at high volume on the street or in the subway to prove to people how important I am.
That info about the St. George Hall Theatre is of interest to me - do you know why the theatre itself is no longer there? Old theatres are, IMHO, among the most beautiful buildings around.
Yes, we're a rare breed these days. ;) There was something mentioned on a news show a few weeks ago saying how there's something like 19 million mobile phones in Australia these days. Might not sound like so much, except there's only 20 million Australians!
I don't know off-hand about why they knocked it down - finding anything about it through searching has been a bit difficult, since our main street is St Georges Terrace, and Hay Street also has our current major theatre, His Majesty's, an Edwardian building opened in 1904: http://www.hismajestystheatre.com.au/about.asp
