Questions and answers, #6: Just kidding around.

As stated in this post, I am answering ten questions about Toby's world in preparation for the release of A Red-Rose Chain. Please note that these are questions about the world, not questions about individual people, things which have not yet happened in the series, or what is coming up in the books. I am still taking questions in the comments on ( Read more... )

Lots of interesting information there. I'm tempted to ask if those human nursemaids are volunteers, conscripts, or a little of both, but I don't really think I want to know. Obviously the fertility issues don't extend to changelings, I mean Mitch and Stacy certainly haven't had problems reproducing. I wonder how many purebloods have done the math and realized what that means? (Question purely rhetorical.)

I'm guessing at least some of them have. :)

They've done the math, but what good is having an heir who can't inherit?

I was thinking more in relation to Toby and the Dochas Sidhe. If Amandine's line ever grew to sufficient numbers and began making purebloods out of changelings on a large scale, there could be a shift in the balance of power. You'd have an influx of new purebloods who have no love for the old way of doing things, and who just might feel a great deal of gratitude and loyalty for the ones who elevated them from their marginalized status. They'd have no titles or land, sure, but they'd have time, and quite possibly significant numbers.

That's something many of the current purebloods wouldn't be happy about. I'm thinking maybe that's why the Hope Chests have all but vanished, and it could explain what happened to August, and Amandine's decline into madness. I mean the best way to stop it from happening would be to make certain her line never grew. Knowing your children are going to have great big targets painted on them because of what they are is enough to push any mother over the edge.

I'll bet they have all the AAP early years books.

Blind fosterage? They know where the kid is going, but not what they're going to do?

Like Quentin. Nobody knew who he was where he went to, but his parents knew where they were sending him.

Oh, this was a joy to read, and very insightful! I laughed out loud at the mental image of fae parents poring over What to Expect When You're Expecting.
