The terrifyingly awesome ingredient my mother and I found in our cough syrup when we were in the UK was codeine.

Codeine is much better and safer and tastier than chloroform, I assure you.

According to our lovely tame pharmacist, it is very difficult to overdose on codeine, while it is very easy to overdose on chloroform. The distance between "recommended dose" and "harmfully too much" being very very short in the latter case.

There was some nast con crud floating around Loncon! I caught one of the nasties that was going around late night of the con, and here it now 10 days later and I still have con crud (although at least only symptomatically, and the feeling like death warmed over part has cleared up)

Actually, no.

Neither of the people who were exposed to me, at great length, before the con fell ill, and the concrud reports I've heard are symptomatically and progressively different than what I had. I did not infect the convention.
