As of today, Sparrow Hill Road is officially available from bookstores all over North America, and from import stores all over the world. It's been spotted in the wild from California to New York, with several points between also chiming in to let me know that they've got copies. Hooray

I love your writing enough to shell out for the paperbacks but I am really frustrated that I can't get your books on my Kindle due to stupid publisher geo restrictions.

I know its probably well out of your control, but just sayin....it means I have to buy your books from Book Depository cos I cant afford to pay Amazons ridiculous freight costs to NZ.

It's out of my control, but at the same time, I'm not really sure I'd change it if I could. :( I'm sorry. The foreign rights sales we get because our books have to be imported make up a lot of any given author's annual income; I eat because people buy foreign rights. And they wouldn't do that if Amazon had the right to sell ebooks anywhere in the world based on the US-pub.

Hm, do they pay you for foreign rights sales of the English ebooks in Germany, then? Because amazon has been happy to let me buy this and others of your books as English ebooks (though there have been other US ebooks I've been unable to buy via the same method)...?
Or can I generally assume that if amazon lets me buy it on my Kindle, the author should be getting their fair share?

It's huge and complicated and I don't honestly understand it. Near as I can tell, no one does.

Some books are published World English (Indexing, for example), and so they can be sold anywhere, any time, to anyone. Others...if you're in Germany, and Amazon is letting you buy the English-language eBook, Amazon is probably doing something wrong. I don't recommend telling me, because then I have to report it to my agent, and maybe whatever loophole is making things easier for you goes away. (I genuinely want things to be easier for you. I also want to be able to eat.)

The difference is that one eBook is maybe fifty cents. Whereas the foreign rights sales for a region can be as much as $50,000. It's a huge difference that impacts my budget enormously.

Got my copy at my local bookstore! I stopped in and special-ordered it on Saturday, so I was pleasantly surprised to get the call that it had come in today. (It is now in my office so I don't screw up my sleep schedule by staying up all night reading -- I learned from the Newsflesh trilogies.)

I'm looking forward to reading it!
