The periodic welcome post.

Hello, everybody, and welcome to my journal. I'm pretty sure you know who I am, my name being in the URL and all, but just in case, I'm Seanan McGuire (also known as Mira Grant), and you're probably not on Candid Camera. This post exists to answer a few of the questions I get asked on a semi-hemi-demi-regular basis. It may look familiar; that's ( Read more... )

You're bitter about the way Buffy ended? What about it rubbed you the wrong way?

The start of the series was all about choice. Buffy had no choice. All she wanted was the right to choose her future.

The end of the series is about Buffy knowing SO MUCH BETTER than anyone else that she has ALL THE POTENTIALS Called, and no one ever says "we didn't think it was for keeps." It's unfair, and it twists her character.

Huh. Not thought about it like that. I always felt the ending was about Buffy finally getting the right to choose her future in that she doesn't have the responsibility of keeping the world saved solely on her shoulders anymore and nor does any future one-girl-in-all-the-world. But I guess it was more than a little presumptuous.

In Toby's world, is it possible for a human, a mortal, with no fae or Sidhe in their background to have magical abilities?

Hi Seanan!

Only discovered your blog recently, so this is the first time I saw this. Your love of books about horrible diseases reminded me that I should thank you for recommending "The Hot Zone". That book was both terrifying and wonderful. I recently read a couple of Scott Sigler books and could tell that he'd totally read "The Hot Zone", too, and suspect he's read you also.

Thanks also for the Newsflesh series. I've always been fairly meh towards zombie/vampire books, but after hearing a little bit about Feed I bought the audiobook and chewed through it at top speed and immediately went on to Deadline. Blackout is the only book since the last 3 Dark Tower installments that I purchased on release day.

Shall explore more of your catalog soon!

*awkward wave* Hi. Is there any way to get your books (other than the couple I can find, one of which is in the middle of a series) on my Kindle? If there isn't currently, do you plan for there to be at some point?

The answer to your question depends on where you are, really? All my books are available in ebook form in the countries where they have been physically published.

I'm in the UK. I've been able to find ebooks of the others for itunes (which says I can only read them on my iPod) and for the Nook and Kobo, but I'm unclear on whether or not the different e-readers have ways of making ebooks purchased through them only available on their ereader. The ones on Amazon don't say Kindle Books, they say ebooks, but the ones I've found are specific and it makes me nervous.

Right now, unfortunately, I do not have a UK publisher for my work under my own name, and because of the way regional ebook distribution works, this means that you can't get ebooks of the Toby Daye or InCryptid series. I'm not sure what's up with the ones on Amazon, but those don't sound legit to me. :(

I'm sorry. Your best bet would be physical copies, and/or contacting a publisher in the UK who does a lot of urban fantasy and recommending that they start publishing me.
