I have both sympathy and empathy for the foot pain, having once managed to develop plantar fasciitis in both feet simultaneously (although apparently a lesser case than has been visited unto you). I sincerely hope this passes soon.

(If you're curious, I'd be happy to tell you what finally worked for me, but I know you're working with your doctor, your body is different from mine, and in general I try to avoid giving unsolicited advice.)

I loved the reviews -- and especially I've admired Russ Allbery for years, from Usenet, and was delighted to be reacquainted with him.

I'm also a long-time fan of Russ and his reviews. I particularly liked "Buffy is completely believable as a computer expert, with all the right bits of obsession in the right places, but also has a complete life and other skills outside of computers. It makes me want to get this book in a substantial hardcover, track down some other authors, and beat them over the head with it. This is how you write a believable young character with computer knowledge."
