I came at it the other way around-I read through all of the Hugo nominees last year (Feed being MY first choice for Hugo, because, well, damn) and found out to my glee that there were MORE books by the same author. Generally, when I have that strong of a positive response to an author, genre is irrelevant to further love. (I *do* like urban fantasy quite a bit, too, so that was nice. But I would have read WESTERNS if that's what else she'd written.)

-this is not to say that Westerns are not a perfectly lovely genre; it's just one that doesn't do much for me.

I ordered my copy today - it probably won't get here until next week! On the plus side, I can get a chunk of my thesis out of the way without being ridiculously distracted by awesome, but!

Once again, very well done. It was good to see old friends again, and meet new ones. I do fear for what you may have in store for Toby next, as things seemed to end with everything going rather well for Toby. Though she did get gutted twice - her newfound Mutant healing factor I mean fae rapid healing ability is certainly proving helpful. At this point in the series, I've started having fun trying to spot Things That Will Be Important Later as they appear scattered through the things Toby barely notices. I'll enjoy working out how many I noticed a few books from now. :)

My only regret about the book is that I finished so quickly, which is totally not your fault; I just naturally read very fast and can't slow down. I cam to terms long ago with the fact that I read faster than anyone could possibly write. In this case, that may be for the best, as my mind was so not on my work yesterday. Thank goodness for checklists.

Likewise with the finishing quickly. I started over lunch, and finished most of it over dessert, until my body told me it was time to get up.

Granted, it was a long lunch, but...yeah.

I came home last night at it had arrived. I restrained myself and made dinner first, and was finished reading a bit after midnight.

After One Salt Sea came out, I re-read the whole series so far, so I could fit everything together, and it meant when I got back to One Salt Sea, I read it a bit more slowly and carefully.

Actually, i did the same thing after Late Eclipses, too, because that time I wanted to check for all the hints that Amadine was something more than regular Daoine Sidhe, and they were all right there in the text.

That is my one true goal: for everything to be right there in the text.

It really says sad things about my sense of humor that Toby's inability to go more than five paces without getting disemboweled and/or gut-shot had me in stitches on my second read through.

I understand this was not meant to be funny. It just is the same way an unfunny joke is funny the fifth time you hear it.

Also the world is full of Tybalt and that always makes me happy.

Toby's like, "Yeah, Li...never do that again."

HOMG...OMG...OMG
More of everything I love--and Tybalt gets to declare himself. Yea!!
I had the same feeling as effervescent--I feel like the books are continuing to move from great action books with good characters to awesome character driven novels with great action.

ETA: Plus another new way for her car to get totaled :-)

I'm starting to think it's a sign that she shouldn't be driving a bug.

Toby's car being totaled in every book is rather like DADA profs never making it more than one school year in the 'Harry Potter' books: you know it's going to happen, and you have fun speculating with friends on the 'how'. ;D
