A facebook moment that froze time

Jan 21, 2012 00:26

I came home after a long (but good day) and did some internetzing just to wind down, and then I guess I made the mistake of logging on to faceboob. (which I don't check into that terribly often, maybe a few times a week or so). You know how faceboob makes "friend suggestions" for you periodically...well today was epic ( Read more... )

I'm saddened to see all those comments above me. Personally, I have never had any problems that even remotely resemble what you describe. I am convinced that me being male is not unrelated to this fact. On the contrary. It's still a very lopsided world.

Maybe you never saw anyone on fb that really bothered you in your life. Or you're not bothered much by assholes. I think that would make a big difference with the fb experience.

I'm bothered by assholes in real life, but on Facebook I just hide updates from them and forget about them, it's true.

Things like this are why it's hard to have nice things.
I have a fb account because most of my HP friends all did and they pretty much left LJ. I rarely go on it.
I skim thru every couple of days, mostly to see what family have posted. I almost never read the recommendations.
I have the added advantage of being a guy and so do not have to worry about stalkers; my biggest problem are people who post dirty jokes.
I'm sorry you had an otherwise good day partially ruined.

I've had the same experience you've had, with good people and good writers leaving LJ for fb, and suddenly they stop writing anything interesting. Basically, I was in the best poetry community on here, and also a great women support community, and some writing related ones that were pretty damn good too. They all vanished and the communities are ghost towns today.

Sad :(

That's why I don't take all of us on LJ and the communities we have here for granted one second. I know what the options are, and how much poorer they are.

Wow! That is scary! I don't have a FB account because there are so many people I really don't want looking me up. My brother-in-law's wife keeps harping at me to get a FB account "so that we can stay in touch". If she wants to stay in touch she can email or call me - neither of whch she does. I don't want to mix my real life with my online life - with the exception of here where I can open up to my elder sis.
