When Angelus had requested that the two meet her, the agreement had been immediate, and worldless. After all, Angelus was like them, in a way no other human in the city was- a single being that was still only a part of a whole.
"We're here," Pantalaimon didn't speak often, letting Lyra do the speaking when other humans were concerned, but this was different.

She nodded to the daemon, and addressed the two of them directly. She wasn't the type to beat about the bush after all.
"The opinion I carried of the humans in my world does not fit many of the humans here." A pause and, perhaps for the first time, she asked a question about another species. A question that carried no condescending tone, nor hint of sarcasm or ill-humor "You have been here longer than I. Tell me. What do daemon and human think of the race of man?"

"What do we-" Lyra began, and then paused, to gather her thoughts, "Think of the humans here?"
"They're different from us, from the humans of our world. Sometimes, it seems like most of the grownups act sillier, that some of the others are cruel... But a lot of them are kind, to. I suppose... They're people. Maybe not as wise as some others, but they're able to learn."
She looked up, calmly, "Does that explain it?"

"The young are often more sensible than the adults. They are wise enough to know there is still much to learn."
She was silent for a while. "It has been decades since I have seen humans that might truly have something more than greed in their hearts. Perhaps the City can be more than a toybox for the gods."
