Oh, bite me, California bigots.

I'm so furious I can hardly speak. Furious at residents of my state. Furious at members of my religion. I had this argument with my bishop as a teenager, that while tithing is not used for political campaigns, you can contribute money to the church that is used for that, and you know? I was also very saddened to see the LDS church backing Prop 8. You'd think that people persecuted about 150 years ago manifestly because of their choices around marriage would be the last people to jump on the California fail train. :(

The good news though is that a lot of LDS -- even here in Utah -- cried foul. Three Mormon moms even organized an anti-8 rally this Sunday.

I'm so glad to hear about the rally against it. It's still unclear whether any pro-8 campaign was financially church-sponsored, or if it was "just" a number of members who took it on themselves to act on behalf of the church. If that's the case, though, there needs to be an official statement, and it still says unflattering things about the church that any member would think it was okay to represent themselves as speaking for the church in such a horrific case. Seriously, I want to reassure people not all LDS people are so small-minded and hateful, but it's also kind of difficult to speak against anti-Mormon sentiment when bigotry is the church's official policy.
