I'm 10 years older than my baby brother; but listening to him talk when he came back from Iraq made me realize he's decades older now than sheltered little me. I tried to show the same sort of "out of my element" situation.
Yeah, except when they leave their screwdrivers in the car's engine & the customer comes back to say that his "brakes work great now, but there's a knocking noise under the hood that wasn't there before your guy worked on my car." :P
They do come in handy, though, for research: "Honey, what's the most annoying problem people bring their cars in for? What makes you want to tell them the payment won't be worth the hassle? And while I'm at it, what does a spark plug do?"

I love the way you write these scenes. Just enough detail to get the idea across without the graphic blow-by-blow that kinda spoils the mood.
