I had serious issues with the main character (Yorick) for several of the books. It's my same problem with Scott Pilgrim. Heh. But the premise was interesting and I really liked the supporting cast.

I think I probably owe clip episodes in general, and definitely soapy, over-the-top montages specifically, to getting into vidding in the first place. When I was a kid, music + favorite character/couple was my favorite thing ever. Heck, even when it was a character/couple I didn't like, if the show gave them a montage, I was so there.

It's really weird because when I first started reading Y: The Last Man, I hated it because I was going through one of those, "I hate all women even though I actually don't" phases that are gross and dumb and ugh and the amount of women, in particular women that were easily mushed into caricatures of the women in my head that I supposedly hated, in that series was overwhelming or something dumb.

I should probably go back and take another look at it now that I'm not stupid have a lot less internalized (or ya know, completely blatant) misogyny going on up in my head.

I found the beginning of the series felt like it played into some really annoying stereotypes about women, and Yorick I found particularly annoying, but it got much better as it went along. IMO.

You know, I don't like clip episodes - I think because I am really like, awkwardly conscious that they're DOING A CLIP SHOW, I don't know. But that said, I actually really liked that episode of Castle. It was well done, and they sort of...earned the clips show thing, you know? Like, there was a really legit reason that made emotional sense to keep revisiting clips like that, and so it felt less self-consciously awkward.

Ahhh, yeah, I can totally see that. I agree, often clip shows are so consciously clip shows. I mean 99% of the time, really.
