Mostly about Community, although I'm discovering that I'm apparently not immune to this new version of Hugh flu. All these years I have been mostly unmoved, and yet he enters this bald, badass glee (TM troyswann), I-want-to-pet-puppies-not-kick-them phase and I'm infected. Like, badly. The "Freaks and Geeks" finale portrayed D&D in a very positive and affectionate way too. But I'm pretty sure this episode surpassed even that, if only for showing so much of the actual game ( ... )

I keep hearing how awesome "Freaks and Geeks" was; I'm going to have to check it out.

And, yeah, having had Garrett (thanks, I didn't know his name!) on their before it also makes it easy to handwave. It makes more sense than bringing someone new in, though, hah, it would've been hilarious to have Starburns do it.

But instead they kept it totally grounded in them sitting there playing the game

YES. Which is another part of it that is so amazing! They managed to really get you invested with them mostly just TALKING. SHOW.

Nice write up about gaming and its dynamics for someone who is not familiar with it, what it means exactly and what it entails/how it is played. I mean, I had heard the "nerdy" stereotypes but never have known why exactly. Anyway, I appreciated hearing what it means to you. :-) It prompted me to read the Wikipedia Article on D&D as well as the Community article since I had no idea what that was either. I swear, I think I live in some sort of pop culture vacuum. How are we such good friends? :-) -n
