IJVP - Day 15! "You've Got A Friend In Me" (Due South)

Feb 01, 2007 10:01

Welcome to the final day of IJVP! Wow. We almost made it by the end of January. *g* I was up till midnight last night working on this and decided I'd be better off finishing it early this morning instead.

The final idea was suggested by isiscolo; it's a Dief & Fraser from Due South vid to Randy Newman & Lyle Lovett's, "You've Got A Friend In Me." This is actually an entire vid - 2:28 long - but unbeta'd.

For those of you who are just here for the vids - please right-click and 'Save Target As.'

You've Got A Friend In Me (39 MB DivX AVI)

Please let me know if you're unable to play the vid.

Lyrics
(Dief)You've got a friend in me

(Fraser)You've got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you're miles and miles
From your nice warm bed

(Dief)You just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you've got a friend in me

(F)Yeah, you've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me

(D)You've got a friend in me

(F)If you've got troubles,

(D)I've got 'em too
There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you

(F)We stick together, we can see it through
Cause you've got a friend in me

(D)You've got a friend in me
Some other folks might be
A little bit smarter than I am

(F)Bigger and stronger too

(D)Maybe

(F)But none of them will ever love you
The way I do,

(together)it's me and you
Boy,

(D)and as the years go by

(F)Our friendship will never die

(together)You're gonna see it's our destiny

(D)You've got a friend in me

(F)You've got a friend in me

(together)You've got a friend in me

My Thoughts; What Works; What Doesn't
I pretty much love this whole vid. There is nothing fancy about it at all, it's just cute music and clips chosen for both visual and show context. My goal was to have their relationship win you over with its snark and and its sweetness. I don't have a lot of objectivity, so I'll leave it to you all to talk about whether it succeeded. :)

What I Learned
To have fun. I've been looking forward to this idea since Isis suggested it, because I knew that it would be a joy to make, and it was. I loved the subject, I loved the song, I loved how easy it was to put together. Sometimes I like to just have fun with an idea, and this was one of those times. I also learned, though, that when it comes down to it, I will privilege voice over lyrics, and that's a huge step for me. I had the voices the other way starting out, because I thought the lyrics worked better that way, but it kept bothering me to have Fraser on the older voice and Dief on the younger voice. It just didn't 'sound' right to me. When I finally cracked and made the switch, the whole thing fell into place.

So. This is it. Thank you all for your patience and support, and especially for your marvelous ideas! Your comments really meant a lot to me throughout and helped me learn even more from the whole project. A summary post with thoughts on this year's project, links to all the vids in one spot, and random vid awards will be forthcoming. Eventually. Maybe not today, though.
