basing my entire opinion off of seth dating both anna and summer at the same time and *not* expecting it to turn out bad... and then fighting with zach over summer...
i say canon!Seth is selfish. besides. the road to hell is paved with good intentions. even if seth was selfless and wanted to do all he could, it's more than likely that circumstances wouldn't permit him to do much anyway. whereas ryan, being right there, would give of himself because it's the least he could do to repay the cohens for taking care of him.
The road to hell REALLY IS, isn't it? *g* Besides, for me, Ryan has always loved Seth more than Seth could ever love Ryan. I mean, in canon. In fanon? Well, Seth would die for Ryan. *nods* My fanon, at least.
Seth would content himself with buying things for the girls and sending them over and asking Ryan if they liked it, even if the shoes were a size too small or the toys were for one year olds when the twins were two. Stuff like that, you know?
great story idea cant wait to read it when it comes out....but i see seth wanting to get away from berkely/newport as he cant deal with the deaths like he did when ryan left..i think that seth that is written in fix is more selfish than the tv show seth lol. either way u right it im sure im going to enjoy it. cant wait.
I think selfish Seth is appropriate and in character. I can imagine him like u described. But I hate dead Sandy and Kirsten fics. Cant you at least make Kirsten go into a coma for a couple of years or so.. so that she will wake up and can tell Seth how selfish he is. and ryan could go visit her every day. 3 little girls? poor ryan
Maybe it could be that Ryan tells Seth to go ahead, finish school and then come back home to him and the girls with intent of returning to school himself when Seth is back. Seth selfishly takes Ryan up on the offer.
I think I just might have found a plausible way for Ryan to fall on his own sword and Seth to be an ass. Ryan is the legal guardian, and there are FOUR kids and Social Services might worry about Ryan going to school full time so Ryan says that he'll take two years off for the girls, three tops, and then go back and it all works out?
I might have to talk with someone who knows legal stuff. *g*
Canon Seth is definitely selfish. I can see him wanting to be helpful but really only on his terms. So, although he may say he'll stay in Berkley to help, from how he talks about it, Ryan would tell him not to worry and to continue with his schooling in Rhode Island. That way, Seth would not feel guilty not being there. He'd help on his terms but with what he sees as Ryan's blessing.
Ryan always seems willing to sacrifice what he wants for what others need or want. Seth, not at all. Although he'll make a jesture of being helpful, it could cause problems for Ryan - like offering to babysit for the girls and then filling them with candy. Ryan would be the dad/disciplinarian and Seth would be the uncle/much older big brother who spoils them.
Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be an enjoyable read!
It's very easy to tell yourself that you're doing the best you can, only, you can't fly back there this weekend because you have a paper due Monday or a test on Tuesday and of course you'll go there next weekend, and the next, and the next, and before you know it the semester has ended. *nods*
And Ryan would feel the pull of responsibility as the Cohens made him the legal guardian of the girls. *nods*
