Asking people's opinions on ebook readers, and tablet computers

I'm considering getting one.

Now before you crucify me, hear me out!

First, let me ask:

• Which do you prefer? Kindle? Nook?
•  What about Color vs BW?
•  How's the battery life on the 2?
  
• What about the idea of Amazon coming in to your machine and erasing files you buy and pay for?
  
• Can the DRM be stripped off Kindle books, so I can backup the files to

I would still get LOTR in the ebook format.. why? Convenience. I wouldn't give up the nice hardbacks I have either. I would love one day to have a large library, fireplace, high-back chairs.
