Mixture of happiness and sheer annoyance

I'm really on the verge of banging my head on the desk at the moment. If I hear my mother bitch abotu her bras one more time I think I'm going to scream. She's been steadily gaining weight over the past couple years and she has now gained enough weight for it to affect her upper body. Yes mother, people do gain weight around there. Enough so that ( Read more... )

I don't know what you're Tolkien issues. There are many to choose from, though I'm a fan. But then, I studied him non-LotR work academically.

It's about Aragorn, it's about Sam, it's about Frodo, and it's about Eowyn. It's about Gollum. It's about Pippin and Merry. It's about Galadriel and Elrond. (Though it's not about Gimli or Legolas.) It's a big story, and it has room to be about far more than any one part. If it was, it wouldn't work nearly as well.

No, you misunderstand. My issues have to do with my own personal psychological problems rather than anything to do with literary discussion. Tolkein gives me the most disturbing nightmares, not that I know why, so I just stopped.

Cute Caribou Coffee Boy agrees with the "everyman" analysis. Clearly, your father is right.

As for your issues with Tolkien, I don't blame you. The man needed an editor.

Well, there is a stunning support indeed. Of course, since my issues involve the fact that I have . . . hem . . . *issues* I can't truly say anything to Tolkein.

This is totally OT but I have to say that every time I walk through the subway and hear music, I think of you. And, OMG! In the 14th Street Station the other day, there were three guys playing jazz and it was killing! Such a great great thing after all that crap.

It was great and I thought you deserved to know... after dealing with the Jazz Master of the York Street Subway for so long!

When I hear the subway musicians who actually seem to deserve the title of musician it just . . . I don't know, comforts me. Of course, all the good musicians tend to take up the spots at stations I don't often visit while Yorkdale gets the two-finger keyboardists.
