It is a decent movie with fine production values but I find it rather dated and a tad stilted. Also, after his marvellous pastiche of period dramas in 'Singing In The Rain', it's hard to take Kelly seriously in this role.
I grew up with the 1970s Musketeers movies which are grittier and more exuberant, so they're the definitive movie adaptations for me.
By the way if you like a good sword fight and haven't seen '13 Assassins', check it out. It's essentially Takeshi Miike's take on Kurosawa's 'The 7 Samurai'. The first hour of the movie is quite leisurely paced but the extended free-for-all that follows is one of the best fight scenes ever.
