HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY DANA SCULLY! As chosen by the Scully Fest members, our final episode is "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," one of my favorites. Though it begins with a murder and ends with a suicide, it doesn't leave the viewer feeling hopeless. The story is a perfect mixture of light and dark, with the bleakness of a serial murder investigation ( Read more... )

i love everything about this episode except for the very end. scully would so not throw a phone at her tv.

clyde bruckman just looks so happy when he says, "you don't." d'aawwwww. also, mulder and scully's card is 'the lovers'. darin morgan, you tease.

Good catch on the card! And you're probably right about the phone, though it never bothered me. What DID bother me was the last line in WOTC. Just had a bad smell to it.

You mean this?

Or perhaps that step forward has already been achieved on another planet by organisms that had a billion years head start on us. If these beings ever visited us, would we recognize what we were seeing? And upon catching sight of us, would they react in anything but horror at seeing such mindless, primitive, hideous creatures?

No! I mean what Mulder says to Scully. I don't pay attention to the philosophical stuff.

I had forgotten how amusing this episode was. I sat and giggled through most of it and still see the negative energy out-take in my head when that scene plays.

I love the gentle ribbing between Scully and Mulder throughout and it still stands the test of time.

I can't really comment now, though I've lost count of how often I've seen this, but I know what impressed me most was how both funny and tragic this episode is. It's part lark and part weeper. No, that's demeaning. It has genuine heart.

"All right. So, how do I die?"
"You don't."

Aaah, the line that launched a thousand fics.

Scully telling Mulder: "I can't take you anywhere" because he gives off "negative energy" is so adorable.

I love how Clyde Bruckman's keep thwarting the preconceptions Mulder and Scully have on him.

Few episode manage to achieve this perfect mix of comedy and tragedy. I guess besides Morgan only Vince Gilligan could pull something with as much heart.

8. hmm, if Scully breaks the "future is set" spell here, maybe it means she can also avoid the fate of not dying. what can i say, i'm holding out hope for her mortality, odd as that sounds.
