I just like it when Scully speaks German. And I'm sad that the show never again uses this piece of canon. Also interesting here is the sister angle, fathers and sisters even.
Oh, the foreshadowing! "You have them. Right there." It's my imagination in overdrive but I swear on this rewatch I saw Gillian's eyes widen in recognition, as though Scully was thinking "How does he know about the headaches?" or something similar
( ... )
Ah, very clever! I never thought of the foreshadowing for the headaches, but yeah, it makes a whole lot of sense. It would also explain why Scully is so short tempered throughout the episode.
I wondered why she took German while also studying physics. As I say further below, I think it must have to something to do with Einstein.
Yeah, hate S2/3 hair, and those beige suits. Blegh.
Ooh, that thing Schnauz (or really the actor) does with his eyes throughout the ep is creepy!
Various parts of this reminded me of a lot of other episodes - s6 Monday for the girl and her boyfriend in the car involved in a crime, s6 Tithonus for the photos of death and Scully in danger, and s6 Milagro for the ending M&S dynamic (even though Scully hugged / clutched at Mulder in Milagro vs here where she just barely accepted his hand to get out of that dentist's chair, it seemed to me there is a distance between them in both instances).
2) The chase was great. Love how bossy Scully gets when she arrests people.
4) Good point about the lobotomies being particularly loathsome to Scully. I hadn't thought of the intelligence angle.
6) I still think his leaps of faith should have met more resistance from the authorities. I mean, six white fingers around a head become 6 tombstones? Yeah, sure, why not? Let's follow him.
Yeah, it's a pretty extreme leap, but remember that none of those cops know what to do and they have an FBI profiler guy to TELL them what to do and to function as blamee when things go wrong. (I love the Brit expression "go pear-shaped." How did it originate?) And they know much is at stake--a kidnapped agent!--I mean "special" agent--and they have no idea what's in Mulder's head. So he says jump and they ask how high.
I'm really enjoying this. It's good to chew over the good old eps again.
I have a thing about eyes; surgery on, damage to, bleeding from. So this episode creeped me out all over again and sent me off on a writing, also research, tangent to work out the Howlers...I mean creeps
